Saint Arnold's Divine Reserve 12 beer

  • Anybody else a fan of Saint Arnold's? Waited in line today and got 2 six packs (the limit). Just drank one, it is quite delicious.

  • Their Lawnmower is really good.

For the non alcholics their root beer is the shit.

  • Yep. I only snagged two sixers because of the talk that this beer required aging. Drank two bottles last night and really enjoyed it. Didnt find it too "hot" on alcohol or think it was particularly immature. I may need to find some more of it

Yeah I've never even heard of aging beer and on top of that, I don't consider myself of that level of connoisseur that would age their beer. I buy beer to drink it.

Some beers need a little aging to mellow the alcohol (big stouts in particular). The talk about DR12 was that it was very hot with a 10% ABV and that aging would do wonders for it. The brewer actually recommends decanting the bottle before drinking. I decanted the first bottle, didn't find anything offensive about the taste, so did not decant the second bottle. Both bottles were glorious but I can definitely see where aging would do this beer some good.

The problem I have is "forgetting" that I have something tasty so that it survives long enough to age. As a guy on Shaggy put it, it's not so much a collection of beers as it is beers I just haven't gotten around to drinking yet.

  • It's pretty solid, probably better than the last few DRs. I think Old Stake may be a little better though, might be worth tasting those two back to back.
