"Don't know. Never had one" -- D. Royal-Mack Brown how to coach a team after a losing season

  • Not exactly a strong endorsement. Still, I wish Gilbert much success at SMU

  • One of the real head scratchers in recruiting history. Despite some of the revisionary history we get here; no one said anything about Gilbert coming out of Austin other than he was a no-miss prospect. Same story after the MNC game. But then came 2010 and a complete implosion. I suspect that we will see a Q.B. who looks better than he did the last two years in Austin; even if he isn't nearly as good as his recruiting rankings had him pegged.

The first time I saw his high school film, I was convinced that he was better than Colt and Mack would screw him out of a year of eligibility because he would use the experience excuse.

A lot of people missed on Gilbert.

Indeed. Much of the talk was centered on folks hoping Gilbert wouldn't leave early for the NFL. And then 2010 happened.

Per: a writer for the Star Telegram and 1049The Horn programming director and co-host of The Big Show, Eric Hogan said at June Jones press conference, Jones endorsed Gilbert as the starter.

History has repeated itself many times on the 40 acres. James Saxton, Donovan Forbes, Shea Morentz, John Chiles, Mark Murdock, Marty Cherry, Cody Danaher. Are all of these head scratchers, nah, but too many Longhorn fans they could bring, "strong" emotions sitting in the stands...

One of the few posts you and I can agree on...................I don't know why every writer or recruiting analyst has a problem saying "I was wrong"..............With GG all we've heard is something like "I told my co-workers etc GG was overrated" but I defy any body to find anything but glowing comments about GG from his Jr year in HS forward.

I also wish Gilbert nothing but the best. If he can't play QB in that system then he has zero future in football.

Super Bill Bradley was perhaps the highest thought of qb to really not make it well at UT.
This link to Marty Cherry is interesting.
