Jerrah wants him some glory hole

  • Jones says Cowboys seek return to "glory hole" days of yesteryear

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones admits he is seeking “glory hole” days for his franchise, which last made the playoffs in 2009 and has won only two playoff games since its triumph over Pittsburgh in Super Bowl XXX to close the 1995 season.

Jones was offering praise to veteran tight end Jason Witten for saying the Cowboys cannot settle for “the same old story” again in 2012. Jones declared it good for younger players to hear such perspective from a player who has “been outstanding” but has “not gotten the brass ring.”

Jones said Witten’s comments also motivate him. From there, he proceeded to launch into the most memorable comment of today’s opening news conference about the Cowboys seeking a return to their “glory hole” days of yesteryear.

“For me, it’s a reminder,” Jones said. “I’ve been here 23 years. I’ve been here when it was glory hole days and I’ve been here when it wasn’t. And, so, having said that, I want me some glory hole. So I have that perspective.”

  • Speaking as an oil and gas guy, Jones was indeed using a term for a gusher.

    But he's still an embarrassment.

Anybody who loves the camera and microphone as much as JJ is bound to look foolish sometimes - he proves that rule often.

No joke. I just wish JJ would step back and let Stephen take over. I think he'd be smart enough to hire a GM and let a football person do the football stuff. Let JJ go wash the jocks and socks.

He's not of the great state of Texas. He's merely an embarrassment in the great state of Texas.

F that guy. Stephen, otoh, is by all accounts a good individual.

Not just competent, but a good person.

Speaking of the NFL, did Rex Ryan have gastric bypass or did his wife limit his foot time until he limited his caloric intake? He looks a lot better.

    *edit*

Just googled it an he did.

Yep, surgery and still suckin on those toes.

  • That is good to know about Stephen. I didn't think I would ever see the phase "good person" and a member of the Jones family used in the same sentence.

Lap band surgery. Easier to do and less complications than the original bariatric procedures; at least to this point. His brother needs to do the same.

  • Rex convinced Rob to have the lap band last year according to the article I read. Ryan lost 105 lbs and his brother has reportedly lost 60.

They both needed to do it, but there's a bit of "like a boss" in patrolling the sidelines with those unrepentant guts.

Something else we can agree with. Jerry did one thing right when he bought the Cowboys. He brought in Johnson and gave him complete control over the draft and personel; and limited his influence to money matters. But after the glory of the Super Bowls went to Johnson and not to Jerry; he had a temper tantrum and fired the golden goose that created the second Cowboy dynasty and gave Jerry the product to sell to create Jerryland.

Right now, Jerry's Cowboys are heading back to Bum Bright's 1986 Cowboy's team. They have a few aging stars; but absolutely no young talent. Who are the only true stars, Ware and Witten. Both are in their 30's. Who are their upcoming stars. Nobody. They may start okay; but will collapse in the second half. Best case scenerio is another wild-card and then one and out. Barring major changes at the top; Jerry is going to be looking at thousands of empty seats in his emporium with a season or two. Maybe not as bad as it was in 1988, but it could be.
