Going to Auschwitz.

I'm going to Auschwitz this weekend and wanted to know if anyone has been. A caveat to that if anyone has been and has any info or stories about their visit, those too would be welcome.

I have been to Dachau twice. It is an emotional experience to know that you are walking the same ground where so much evil took place.

Went over when I was stationed in Holland, but that was '93. We took a tour put together in a package from our base travel team. It's just an amazingly weird feeling being there. You can feel the fear, and evil that went on is the best way I know how to describe it. I wish I could put into words the feeling you will get, its indescribable. Maybe google something about it, I'm sure you'll find something to help. While in country, make sure you drink some good local brew. Best beer in the world.

Yeah I have been to Dachau before.
It was one of the strangest experiences for me.
I saw a family taking multiple photos and the dad telling his kids to keep moving because he couldn't get a good shot of them with the crematorium.

Simply a amazing visit, will probably remember it for the rest of my life. The trip to Auschwitz was by itself worth the trip to Poland. It was a two hr tour and I will never see anything like it, if you have the chance to go you Must go. It's a once in a lifetime tour, please go ASAP.

thanks for posting. I would go visit to pay my respects if I was ever there but can't imagine ever being in Poland since I have never been East of NY. It still amazes me that a supposedly civilized country can do such a thing. It is a lesson to never forget lest it happen again.

I think everyone should see places like Auschwitz or Dachau, we must remember our dark times along with the great. I've been to both plus Pearl Harbor and the OKC bombing memorials and never will forget any. My kids will see the pics and I will try my best to explain what I've seen. I still want to go to some civil war sites along with the sept 11 ground zero memorial.

Thanks for your service. My dad was an MP during WWII and saw a couple of the death camps. He said as bad as Omaha Beach and Bastogne were, they paled in comparison.

My only dislike able experience was while at Pearl Harbor. I was looking at the memorial and saw some Asian tourist laughing and joking. I hope they weren't laughing at something to do with the memorial but to me it was inappropriate at the time regardless. Whenever I'm at a memorial like that, I don't make jokes it's a time of reverence,silence and respect IMO.

I have been to Dachau and it was very interesting and moving experience. Not sure how to really describe it, but I was certainly in a funk the rest of the day. The weirdest part to me was that there was an apartment complex literally along the fence line. I could not live overlooking a place where so many horrific things happened. It was interesting some of the Germans I spoke to did not understand why we wanted to go see Dachau.

Dachau certainly was moving and too was well worth the time and money to go. Ive been to Dachau, Auschwitz, and flossenberg concentration/ death camps most of which had a town or village right next to. Most of which had to be cleaned up by the local inhabitants because they looked the other way instead of doing something. I think most Germans would rather forget about the holocaust and I'm sure hate the fact these few still stand.

That reminds me of how some Penn State people are acting right now. We see what we want to see and know what we want to know.
