Anyone ever tried any of the BBQ dishes at Hoovers?
I always just get the CFC but I was visiting a week ago and saw someone that had some mean looking ribs.

Ive never been to Franklin's, I keep waiting for the lines to subside.....that said Lockhart is worth the drive. Kruez is in a world of its own, Smittys is spectacular and Blacks is excellent. It's hard to go wrong.

The first time I ever heard of Franklin's, I was reading an article on si.com that was titled THE GREATEST BBQ IN THE UNIVERSE or something like that. The whole article was about Franklin's. The very next day, I spent 90 minutes in line in the rain. When I finally got to the front of the line, I asked for brisket, pork ribs and burnt ends. The sides (pinto beans and potato salad were pretty good, but the meats were all indescribably great. I am now planning when my second trip there will be.

Salt Lick is very good, but BYOB. Ironworks has good beef ribs. I've tried J Mueller twice and haven't liked it either time.

It doesn't get any better than what comes out of my backyard.

Seriously, there are great bbq places in the Austin area. No argument that Franklin's is always near the best. The drive to Coopers in Llano was always worth it to me. The bbq places in Elgin with their sausages are also great.

Question: I never tried Stubbs. Is the bbq good or is it more of a music venure/

I'm competing in Sealy this weekend if you want to come taste some good BBQ. Bring your mud boots though.

Which covers about 80% of the judges at KCBS events. Good BBQ shouldn't require sauce to make it taste good.

This seems as good a place as any to ask. Anyone remember the old Pit BBQ joint that was on 2222 just to the north/west of MOPAC? Had an uncle who lived on Lookout Mountain and we used to eat at that joint pretty regular like. Best I recall it shut down in '88 or '89. I think it was just called "Pit BBQ".
