Best BBQ in Austin area

I know this has been a topic many times but I'm in austin and looking for a great BBQ place..any worthy suggestions??..

Franklins. E 11 street. Be prepared to wait in line though.

I know some people will disagree but I like the Salt Lick (it's not really in Austin but just outside). It has a nice country atmosphere & the pit is huge & visible.
For good brisket, go to Mann's & ribs go to Lamberts.

Anyone ever tried any of the BBQ dishes at Hoovers?
I always just get the CFC but I was visiting a week ago and saw someone that had some mean looking ribs.

Good BBQ? Franklins and John Muellers. Go to Franklins early or you wont get to eat. Apparently Aaron has some kind of magic pixie dust that turns natural angus beef brisket into pure BBQ gold.

Ive never been to Franklin's, I keep waiting for the lines to subside.....that said Lockhart is worth the drive. Kruez is in a world of its own, Smittys is spectacular and Blacks is excellent. It's hard to go wrong.

This right here is all you need to know.
Franklin's is well worth the wait. Go early and get in line. I havent been to John's place yet, but the reviews say the beef rib and brisket alone are worth the 6 hour drive (for me). It is on my list as a must stop the next time we are in town. John has also been known to hand out beer to those waiting in line fwiw.

The first time I ever heard of Franklin's, I was reading an article on si.com that was titled THE GREATEST BBQ IN THE UNIVERSE or something like that. The whole article was about Franklin's. The very next day, I spent 90 minutes in line in the rain. When I finally got to the front of the line, I asked for brisket, pork ribs and burnt ends. The sides (pinto beans and potato salad were pretty good, but the meats were all indescribably great. I am now planning when my second trip there will be.
Salt Lick is very good, but BYOB. Ironworks has good beef ribs. I've tried J Mueller twice and haven't liked it either time.

Went to Franklins yesterday (2 hr wait) the brisket was ehhh, but the pork ribs and pulled pork we're great. The service was really great as well. My buddy, who had been there before, said the brisket was off that day. To be honest though had I not waited so long in line and heard so much about, it might have been better.

The one in Round Rock is great also. Might catch a game at Dell Park.

Seriously, there are great bbq places in the Austin area. No argument that Franklin's is always near the best. The drive to Coopers in Llano was always worth it to me. The bbq places in Elgin with their sausages are also great.

Opies in Spicewood deserves a mention also. In fact I have a Groupon for it that I will use in the next few weeks.

My office is three blocks from Stubbs. It's for tourists and folks who are really into BBQ sauce..

Whenever I go to the one in Round Rock, I am NEVER disappointed. Love that place and the atmosphere.

Is Bert's still around? They were up the alley off 19th street by the University; they had the best pork ribs. I heard the place burned, but don't know if the rebuilt.

This seems as good a place as any to ask. Anyone remember the old Pit BBQ joint that was on 2222 just to the north/west of MOPAC? Had an uncle who lived on Lookout Mountain and we used to eat at that joint pretty regular like. Best I recall it shut down in '88 or '89. I think it was just called "Pit BBQ".
