  • He might want to run that idea by the NCAA. They don't like it when players get a financial benefit associated with playing a sport.

    I believe the difference is that they could claim Cam didn't know what his dad was up to in that situation. Manziel can't say that same thing.

    Nothing, as in, a free education, free room and board, free food, free clothes, free trips all over the country, free gift bags at bowl games, plus free training to make a lot of money in the NFL for a few of them?

    I recognize the opposing argument. But all of that is what? A couple hundred grand if you really pushed it? The schools will make untold millions and millions off a kid like that.

    I would just like to see some kind of balance for at least what the schools make off the jerseys.

    Or, you know, that first round paycheck for a couple million that the school helps the kid get. And then there's those second contracts for crazy amounts of money. I think the school can make money off the kid as much as they want considering that they're the ones who build them into what they become. The kid is useless without a school, but the team isn't useless without even the best player.

    Hate is strong, but I'm not a fan of these rules.

    btown1110, same as basketball, if kids could go straight to a professional league, many would. (Obviously we're not talking about JFF here, who probably will never play in the NFL.) But the system is created whereby kids have to go to college, even if for a ridiculous one year in basketball, and then they go pro.

    There's nothing they gain from their "education" at college. It's a farce. But there damn sure is quite a bit the school earns from having that superstar on campus.

    If you're going to make them go to college, it just seems a little unbalanced that the schools can make so much off of them, including kids who will never play a down of professional football.

    It's hard to believe you recognize that side of the argument when you think the player gets "nothing" in return from the school. The education alone can be worth millions of dollars to the players that don't go pro in football.

    One year of "education"?

    My point is that let's not act like the schools are doing anything more than trying to make as much money as possible off of the superstars. Really don't know what there is to argue about that.

    What does one year have to do with anything? Is he quitting after one year?

    Of course the schools are trying to make money, but that doesn't mean the player is getting nothing in return.

    And just to be clear, I want to make sure we all realize that that the Manziels have to play by the rules you support. They can't make a dime off of the name he has had since high school while in college. They just want the rights to it after he graduates. When he can make millions, as you suggest.
