i was kidding. tell me a coach who has turned it around as quickly as he has with a very young qb

Have they really turned it around? I don't think they have done anything this season that we wouldn't had we played the same schedule even in spite of our issues. They are pretty much the team everyone thought they would be with Auburn and Arkansas deciding to implode instead of playing football this year.

They've won every game they were expected to win and lost every game they were expected to lose (they were favored today btw). That's not an especially high standard to meet.

That said, a likely 9-3 season and a third place finish in the SEC West is a fine start on the surface. I won't argue that.

Oklahoma would beat them, no doubt about that.

The same oklahomasux that has it's hands full with Iowa St right now?

That would be impressive on a normal $echeats year. I think, except for l$u and bama, the rest of the teams would struggle in some game against Big12 teams. They would put up some points against those teams. The reason why the other sec teams always play close games is because they have inept offenses. Look at Florida right now!

Iowa St has a good defense. I think you are way underestimating them. Yes, the same OU that put 66 on us and hung with #3 Notredame.

Agreed. I just think that the issues at Auburn and Arkansas are making it a lot easier. Auburn has taken a massive fall since winning it all with Newton. I've never seen an Auburn team this bad.

Coach Snyder - was at South Florida.

He's originally a Tressel guy. Coached with him at Youngstown State and then went with him to OSU before becoming Marhall's HC. Obviously a better DC than HC.

  • The key takeaways SHOULD BE:

    * SEC defenses have no clue how to stop Big XII / Spread style offenses. Ditto Cam Newton / Gus Malzan in 2010.
    * The SEC teams that have the great DTs who can push the pocket and hold up against the inside runs (LSU, Bama, Florida, maybe Georgia / So Carolina) have had no problem holding the A&M offense WAY BELOW their typical output
    * Will the SEC (as a conference) adapt to the Spread, or will the Spread overwhelm the SEC? The coaches to be hired this offseason (Tenn, Arky, Kentucky, Mizzou) should have a big impact in this argument.

In my mind, great athletes on the DL will always win the day. That's how ND completely shut down OU last week, as a case in point. If so. the guess here is that Bama, LSU, Florida, Georgia, etc...will remain immune to the Spread offenses. Fun to see though.

  • I don't think JFF threw a pass 2 yards past the LOS on those first three scoring drives. He didn't have to.

Exactly. Had this been last year, they would have been 4th or 5th in the West. I have never heard of a good team that finishes 4th or 5th in their division! Not even the conference! How many times have we finished 4th or 5th in the Big 12 and have thought that we are a horrible team. People here give the gaggies waaaaaay too much credit for beating up on much lesser teams. If they would have beaten Florida and L$u this year, I would have thought differently. Then you say, well MSU has only lost to Bama. Well, that is because bama is the first real football team they played and they blew them out! We will see how things play out and once Sumlin starts playing his own recruits and not Sherman's. We all know what happened to Houston once Briles' recruits left and Sumlin's came in.

We're both playing mid-tier ranked teams on the road today.

Do you expect our game to look like this?

It doesn't matter if you think the SEC is overrated (they are). This is all about perception.

Putting 66 on us this year is not that impressive, our defense is just plain terrible and since when is 30-13 "hanging" with an opponent?

ND rolled ou, they owned them in all facets of the game and it was not even close

Sec in general this year = overrated.

Yep, every year. I bet the SEC goes 2-7 in bowl games.

  • And I don't know if anyone realizes this yet, but beating bad teams, sometimes beating good teams, and almost never beating great teams was the recipe for Mack's 10-win streak that led to incredible recruiting success.

I realize that I have been coming off pro-A&M a lot lately and I just want everyone to know that I hate them more as much as anybody. But pretending like they aren't looking very impressive now (justified or not) is a very dangerous proposition. If we do nothing to counter this then we will be in trouble.

Obviously "hanging" with someone means that you were right there and then they take off at the end. You think too highly of this a&m team man. The day they beat a real football team and don't shit their pants, I will stop and listen to your "genius" comments.

  • It's not the spread why A&M is having terrific success. It's the fact A&M has a true dual threat QB in that spread with terrific OL personnel.

If it was just the spread, Missouri would be scoring at the same pace and with the same success as Texas A&M. And that couldn't be farther from from what is happening.

  • Good to see Diaz didn't teach tackling at miss st. Either

    KAhorn

  • It will be interesting how they function next year when they take a hit on the OL due to the draft and if Manziel can stay off of trouble during the offseason.

    LonghornMando25

  • I want to see how they look next year without the offensive tackles recruited by Sherman. When you lose two first rounders it's impossible not to regress IMO.

  • Missouri in 2011 in the Big 12...

12th nationally in offense, 475.5 yards per game and 6.36 yards per play.

Missouri in 2012 in the SEC...

109th nationally in offense, 317.4 yards per game and 4.59 yards per play.

    Same QB.

I think you have to give Texas A&M's OL credit, Manziel credit and the Aggies staff credit.
