Winston Sheppard?

  • Can someone explain to me why we didnt go after this kid? He is having a ball in the NHSI. Championship game on today i believe. But his parents attended texas, and he's in the findlay prep pipeline....Im so censored confused! How do we keep letting big players from our state get out? Heard the harrison twins cut us from the list too.....is it barnes?

  • There is no Findlay Prep pipeline for starters & Shepard doesn't really have a position. Too small to play down low & not skilled enough to play on the perimeter & I'm guessing they feel Papapetrou is better.

  • The Harrison twins has nothing to do with Barnes. They have said for a while now that they wanted to go out of state.

    I believe we were recruiting Sheppard a few years ago, but when he didn't develop a game to go with his athletic ability, we moved on. He wound up at San Diego State, so it's not like UNC, Duke and UK were dying to have him either.

  • He's a lockdown defender....shut down consensus # 1 player Shabazz Muhammad in a game in January....not sure why you guys are saying he hasn't developed a game...he's very versatile, capable of playing several positions...we are thrilled to have him join the Aztecs next season....Coach Fisher likens him to Jalen Rose.

    Ok...but where do you play him. He can't shoot or create for himself off the dribble. He's decent creating for others on the break but you'd probably rather have your point doing that. Not saying he isn't good but not a huge miss. He was Texas' if they wanted him.

    Didn't have the best career at UT and had a brush with the law as well I believe.

  • I'm not advocating that we should or shouldn't have taken Shepard but it's not like Barnes hasn't taken worse players.
