Will someone give DJ Augustin an MVP vote?

  • This is a semi-serious question. Surely every year someone puts an odd candidate at #5 on his ballot to make a weird point.

    The Bobcats just finished the worst season ever by an NBA team--7-59. Augustin missed 18 games. He played 11 minutes or less in 2 others. The Bobcats were 0-20 in those games. They went 7-39 with him playing 20+ minutes a game.

    I wonder if someone might make a note of that by putting Augustin fifth on an MVP ballot. I kind of doubt it, but what the heck.

    And in case you are wondering, they went 1-10 without Henderson, 0-3 without Biyombo (but won a couple of games in which he played a total of 10 minutes), 2-11 without Thomas, 0-1 without Mullens, 1-7 without White. They were 1-32 without Maggette, but he shouldn't be considered for MVP since he only played in half the games.

  • That's some Bobcats research. You should send it to Bill Simmons. He was filling out his ballot earlier in the week on his podcast.

    Simmons hates Rick Barnes with a passion for some dumb reason. He ripped Barnes for the reason it's taken this long for Bradley to be this good.

    Yes, we all know how 6'2" guards that can't handle the ball well and weren't good deep shooters in high school are primed to be NBA stars when they are 19.

    What a twit.

    He might have been more NBA ready if he had stayed at Texas another year.

    Maybe, but we've already had that discussion. I have to think that Bradley's 2010-11 year in which he participated in

    1) preseason practice with the Celtics;
    2) regular season practice with the Celtics;
    3) a short D-league stint; and
    4) practices and actual game time for the Celtics

    was better prep for playing as a starter in the NBA than a second year in NCAA Div. I would have been. Playing the second year in college would have meant he would have been closer in 2011-12 than he was in 2010-11 as a rookie, but it doesn't mean he would have played better for the Celtics in 2011-12 as rookie than he actually did as a second year player.

    Most players would also get summer league time, but Bradley didn't because he was injured in pre-draft workouts.
