Will Brown go pro???

  • NYHorn said...

It stinks to see him not want to come back to win a championship, but the fact that he wants to support his family is a valid one...

    FYI, you inadvertanly said "championship"...

  • Quote from Brown after the loss: "I have a family to take care of. If I get drafted, I get drafted. If I don't, I don't."

Quote from Kabongo: "I have class on Monday." Apparently Kabongo wanted no part in the question...

Honestly, I doubt we get either.

    Um, you inadvertently put inadvertanly.

And if you don't think that team can win a Big12 Championship, you are seriously mistaken

Those are quotes? Aww hell both of them are gone. If JCB hadn't turned himself into a good student I'd be questioning if he would even show up to class Monday.

Well, at least we bring back someone next year. Back to the drawing board.

  • I do think Ridley signs but I happen to think the team is better off if Brown leaves. He was also quoted saying he didn't want to talk about it. Why does Myck saying he is going to class mean he is leaving? I actually think he is coming back but I have no inside info to support that I just think he can't be that stupid.

  • Has he graduated yet or will he graduate this semester???

Earlier in the week he was adamant about staying. Why wouldn't he just say it again if he was sincere.

  • If feel if he goes pro then he goes, he will have Mclendon and Lewis both good scorers back. I look at it this way, he has spent more time here at Texas then a lot of players have and he has done a lot more...

Sure they "can". But Barnes has only 3 in his time here. If his best player leaves or if they don't its much more likely Bill Self will continue to own the big12 and Barnes.

    COACH CUTLIP

  • Can someone explain why the NBA doesn't go to a more baseball-like draft process? That is, you can either jump to the NBA out of high school or go to college for 2-3 years depending upon age. The NBA wastes a lot of money missing on these high picks. Is it the NBA Players Association that keeps this from happening?

College basketball would be so much better if the NBA guys went to the NBA, but the college guys actually stayed in college a couple of years.

Maybe that was his way of reiterating that. shrug If he was going into the draft I don't think he'd waste his time with class right.

I don't know what he's going to do and I wouldn't be shocked whatever his decision was; I'm just hoping the scouts watched his game today and tell him to come back.

  • Reasons to come back:

    1. Improve shooting percentage
    2. Improve defense
    3. Prove he can put a better team on his
back and take them past the 1st round.

Even Kevin Durant finished his work.

From the beginning of the season, Gerry said they were recruiting as if Kabongo would be leaving. So I guess they're "prepared."

Barnes asks all his players to stay in school to the end of the semester, even if they are going into the draft. It helps us on the NCAA academic calculations. BTW, Thompson made an almost identical quote last year, and continued to tweet about loving to be a student, right up until he declared for the draft.

Pay absolutely no attention to anything these players say. The only way to know what they are going to do is watch them do it.

I agree with this. Michael Kidd Gilchrist said last week he will graduate from Kentucky before going pro.... ya right (projected top 3 pick). I'm hoping he comes back and that's all we can do so I'll leave it at that.

fwiw Chad Ford wrote this on Mar. 9th:
"Kabongo came into the season hyped as, potentially, the best point guard in his freshman class. For the most part he struggled, particularly with his shot and with making a difference on the floor. Kabongo is a talent ... but he's a talent that really needs to stay in school one more year."
He also moved Myck out of the first round in his latest update to 33 and the 5th ranked pg.

Now I'll take that with a grain a salt as that sounds really familiar to what he said about cojo last year and we all know what he did.

You'd think that we, among all fan bases, would understand this truism.

  • If I were Barnes, my sales pitch to J'Covan and Myck wouldn't be about coming back and getting better or winning any championship. I think he should point out how deep this 2012 draft class is going to be and that they have a better shot of getting drafted higher in 2013 simply b/c of the other players available.

  • J'Covan should leave. There isn't anymore Barnes can teach him. He has the drill down. I personally think he should leave. Hopefully he will land somewhere where they have a need for his type of game. He is good. Give him some credit here. If it wasn't for him, I doubt very seriously Texas would have made it into the tournament.

If Kabongo goes, so be it. For someone so highly ranked he has left me wondering just how he was ranked so high I am not being mean here, but honest to goodness his errrors and bad judgement during the course of this year are amazing for someone so well thought of in the basketball ranks.

He definitely needs to stay and learn. If he stays another year, possibly we might see what all the talk about him was in the first place As of this writing, I just don't see the "greatness" being thrown at himblankblankheadslapheadslap.

When it comes to the NBA, there is an established pattern of going for young, undeveloped "talent." Sometimes that works out (Amare Stoudamire, Andrew Bynum) and sometimes it doesn't (insert your own lengthy list here.) Myck is a plus athlete, with great speed. So far, he has not shown the knack to run an offense or take care of the ball, and he has not demonstrated the vision that great point guards have on the floor. NBA GM's take the view that you can't teach the athletic ability, so they are willing to take their chances with raw talent.

The irony is that two of the greatest players of the modern era, Magic Johnson and Larry Bird, were not great athletes. Instead, they were hard workers who understood the game and built themselves into great players, maximizing their limited physical ability.

  • I can't believe people are saying we would be better without Ja'coven Brown next year. This guy is the reason we made it to the tourney and won twenty games. If he's not going pro or resorting to playing the d league or European league I think it might actually behoove him to go ahead and finish his degree. I am rooting for him to shock people and actually stay in school for a change.

Can you link to those quotes?

I listened to the post game presser and Brown was asked if he'd played his last game. He didn't answer the question. He said this wasn't the time for that question and this was a time to honor Alexis and Clint and mourn with the team. He didn't say anything remotely like what you "quoted."

Signatures are stupid. You should block them.

I find 2nd rounders leaving early for the NBA funny.

As opposed to staying another year, risking injury, not gaining any draft status and still being a 2nd rounder?

I would think him slightly foolish if he stayed.
