Why not the Texans for Vince?

  • Wouldn't signing Vince to back up the injury prone Matt Shaub be a smart move for the Texans? Now that Leinart is back in Cali let's bring Vince home.

T J Mills cost a lot less for back up

  • i really doubt it. not drafting Vincent Young was the ultimate slap in the face to both Texan fans and Vince himself. Jeff Fisher has apparently done his best to blackball VY. apparently Buffalo is interested though.

  • 'cause VY is not an NFL QB, plain and simple. I hate to say it, he was incredible at Texas, but since he's left, meh...

He had something like 4 TD's and 9 INT's in his time last year? Not a NFL QB...

That's right. Fisher is more at fault for Vince not having a job then Vince is.

  • I still think Vince has what it takes if he can just get in the right scenario. i could see coming home giving him a lot of inspiration to take it a step further. I don't think we can just go by what happened in Philly. it is time for him to redeem himself. I just would like the sense of irony if he was actually given a call.

His problem is in his head. He needs to realize that he's now Vince the career back up and not Vinsanity Texas' MVP. These guys are professionals they need to make the situation work.

  • I have to admit, with schaub's fragility that vince at #2 sounds intriguing ; i wasn't as impressed with Yates as some were. However, with case keenum now in the fold, whom i feel has a ton of potential, it's in our best interest to stand pat.

Guess which QB is Yates and which QB is VY?

I can easily explain that. Jeff Fisher.

In all seriousness, I wished Dallas has taken Yates instead of Houston.

  • It just seems that even the potential of Vince stepping on the football field if, when Shaub goes down with the next injury, would put butts in the stands and draw some added interest from Texans' fans. Shit, Kubiak is an Aggie. He's probably dumb enough to go with it. I guess the potential of Vince being a distraction could be an issue. But from a professional and promotional perspective, getting Vince in as a Texan, or a Cowboy for that matter, would be a smart move. I would love to say Jerry Jones is dumb enough to do it but I dislike the man so much I couldn't wish Vince upon in him in any shape, way or form.

Those stats are from 2011 only. Jeff Fisher sat out 2011. VY played for Andy Reid.

Yates did a fine job for a freaking 3rd stringer. I was pleasantly surprised with his performances.

I understand what you're saying, but the games will all be sold out whether VY is there or not.

It was a joke. Except for the part about Yates

Gotcha. I was just clarifying since I didn't post that 2011 tidbit in my original post.

With the crappiness of the astros, the mediocrity of the Rockets, and the Texans finally having a good season and the pre season favorite to run away with the division, the butts will be in the stands. All the tickets are sold out anyway.

The Texans front office wasn't savvy enough to know how popular drafting VY would have made the Texans in '06, but hiring Wade Philips has finally yielded the team being a contender.

I still submit that Gary Kubiak is a horrible head coach and possibly the least intelligent NFL head coach I've ever seen. As soon as Philips was out last season, the Texans were right back to their old ways.

and I hate to agree, but he's certainly had his opportunities and has really not been as good as I thought he would. He might find a backup job this season but would not be surprised that this is his last year in the league.

  • It would be an awful idea. All the local Horn fans would be clamoring for him the first time Shaub has a bad game. Plus all the Ag fans would be threatening to boycott.

Not the exact way I would put it but this is the issue. They have an adequate backup quarterback, suited for the offense, proved under fire, who figures to get better. Vince Young, despite his experience, has yet to show consistency in what passes for the standard NFL style of offense.

Bringing him in would cause more problems than it would solve.

  • Completely agree with GoingCoastal and BIH. I would LOVE to see Vince playing for the Texans but bringing him in to back up Schaub would be the worst possible move the Texans could make.

JMHO but I think his experience in Nashville just plain ruined Vince.

Apples to oranges. If Vince had Arian Foster, Andre Johnson, and Owen Daniels those numbers would likely be switched.

It's funny that the few coaches ranked worse than him on this list had all been to the playoffs before last season.
