"I've heard some of our fans say, 'We were always an SEC school. We just didn't know it," athletic director Bill Byrne said.

-- D. Royal-Mack Brown how to coach a team after a losing season
When a player goes from primarily having the ball ALL the time in their hands on offense, and then switching to defense without any real experience it can be tough. I'm glad Duke had a chance to play more CB last season at Cove, even if his technique is still raw he got chance to play the position. Thompson maybe struggling because his natural instincts are to gain yards and score. That's totally different from what he is doing now. He also maybe struggling because he doesn't want to make a "mistake". From my on experience playing in high school and at Southeastern Louisiana University, I sometimes practiced "not to screw up" instead of just reacting to the plays in practice. I was so nervous that I was going to get yanked, that I would constantly screw up. Unfortunately for me the light didn't click until I was a junior, and suffered a season ending shoulder injury. Hopefully, Thompson just plays and reacts, and leaves the thinking in the classroom.
Just a whole lot of truth in that entire post IMO.
Great post, JThomas.
