Who do you think should be the back up QB??

  • I'll go ahead and predict another QB quagmire by 3rd quarter of the BYU game.

2nd game of the season - BYU. The 2011 exit for Garrett Gilbert.

And now 2013 approaches. 2nd game of the season - BYU. Exit for Ash?

Because we know New Mexico State is not going to reveal anything.

The handling of the QB's has been bad for whatever reason. The only stability was Colt and I believe had Perrilloux signed that would have ended differently for Colt.

Very true, because Perriloux was it. It took the players going in during summer workouts and telling Mack, Colt was the real deal.

It's clear that I've been conversing with someone "special". Noted.

We lost three roster QBs because of Gilbert.

    Sherrod, Connor Wood, and Kinne.

No telling who all we missed out on by not offering.

    Luck, RGIII, etc.

    Mornin' sunshine!

Mornin' to you too, sweetness! We forgot Jevan Snead transferring to Ol Miss. And Luck and Griffin came out of HS the year before Gilbert. At the time our qb depth chart was Colt, Snead, Sherrod, and Kinne, with Gilbert in the wings (didn't he commit to us as a junior?). Hard to blame the coaches for not taking a chance on Griffin as a qb. His offer list included such powerhouses as Tulsa, Houston, and Baylor.. Luck is a different story. Don't know what happened there.

    Snead was way before Gilbert.

  • Case McCoy. He is the only answer—today. He made an ass out of himself; he jeopardized his team and teammates. Is there a man in there of just a punk kid? He has a chance to redeem himself few who screw up this badly rarely ever get. He can show his parents, his brother, his teammates, his coaches and even we fans that he is more than we think. If he’s a real McCoy, he has a chance to prove it. I for one hope he is called upon and I pray he puts on a show.

Oddly enough, it happens more than you'd think. I got plenty of acorns. Want some?

  • Is that guy seriously comparing Ash to Gilbert now? I hate our fanbase sometimes. Actually, a lot of times.

My prediction is that McCoy will be in by the BYU game. I expect next season to be another QB roller coaster quite frankly. Unless Mack gets frustrated and decides to roll the dice full-time with Case.

And it won't be due to a large lead or injury. Maybe "injury", but not injury. Ok, that was uncalled for.

But anyway its fair game for me to make a prediction. Do you care to?

With the QBs you guys have on campus now, if you cant run the ball, it will look a lot like last year with Ash or McCoy. Brewer needs to be the guy, but we will see what the spring game shows. They should allow Ash to do more than throw a few screens this year.

There is nothing more dangerous in this world than a man with nothing to lose.

Pretty certain he's referring to browncounty's following post:

I feel pretty confident in saying Case McCoy is the worst starting QB in the history of Texas, maybe the 1938 guy was worse. This guy has no business being on the depth chart of a D-1 football team, the only reason he is still here is because no one else would take him and Mack wouldn't get rid of someone if he had no place to go. Macks sad devotion to bleeding for the program has not helped conjure up a quality depth chart nor gotten rid of helicopter parents. Ash is an above average QB, if we had an above average coach we would have been able to win the conference, unfortunately the Texas situation is what it is. If Case is the primary backup again this year we're entering a world of pain.

Were you in a coma during 2010?

Case isn't good. But he is light years better than Gilbert.

Case is fine for a college backup. That's all he should be though. Lets put it this way, I'd rather him ash backup than Matt Nordgren.

  • Black Shipley said...

He's a scrappy QB who had a few lucky plays.

I think he's a fine backup. Could we do better? Sure. Can he win a game in a pinch? I think so. Multiple games? I'm willing to give it a shot. If Ash gets hurt and Case stinks up the joint you can always throw Brewer in to see how he does. Brewer is just a couple plays away.

Another reason why Case would be a good backup this season? The new uptempo gameplan. I could see him being successful with a quick, short passing/screen game.

Not saying Brewer shouldn't get a shot at backup. He should. That's part of why I was pissed he didn't get reps in the first week. Still only takes a couple plays though...

Damn Black, just when I think we are on completely different wave lengths then you post this. This is my point also. I hope you are right about Brewer, although we have very little to go on. I'm hoping the first week was just discipline and seeing what the other kids can do against real college players. The coaches have to see what they have got. Brewer needs to assert himself if he is going to be the backup by the middle of next season and challenging Ash for playing time. Make that the third game. I have no idea wheather he is capable of doing it, but if Texas is going to fix the QB problem something like this has to happen. I hope Brewer is not a QB at ARK ST next year.

One of my favorite LH plays of all time! I remember him getting up with a big smile on his face knowing that he just became a one-play legend.
