My problem with the situation is that even if Mack had been looking at 2013 as "the" year for Texas to return to his mythical 10-win season, I feel like the Texas program will still have suffered damage to the image for us to get there. Even if Mack Brown walks away with a national championship next season, it seems like there is damage done perception wise both nationally and in-state that we are going to pay for going forward.

I think you're wrong, and here's why. People have such short memories these days, and nobody cares about anything but right now. That's the very reason that people are so down on Mack right now. If Texas was back in the Top 5 next year, the national perception would be right back where it used to be.
Just listen to those Alabama fans that call Paul Finebaum. Do you think Alabama fans care that from 2001 - 2007 they twice failed to make a bowl, played in the Independence Bowl 3 times, and the Music City Bowl once? Heck, no. They think they are National Champs in perpetuity.

What would it take to get you positive about Mack again?
