You know what Manny Diaz wants to do with the DEs in his scheme? Please explain.

Diaz wants his ends to play gap control. If there isn't a stunt he wants his ends to be responsible from the outside shoulder of the down lineman or TE to the sideline. They are supposed to turn plays inside if possible and if not run it out to the sideline because in most defenses pursuit is from the inside out.

To your question, Diaz zone blitz scheme will often have the defensive ends stunting inside or dropping into coverage. These stunts force safeties and OLB to hold outside gap control and when the other team runs a zone block running play we get abused. Dropping Okafor and Jeffcoat into pass coverage so that you can rush Byndom was one of the dumbest things I have ever seen a Texas DC do.

Good to hear about Bluiett. I was thinking it might take him a bit to get back into the swing of things at DE, but doesn't sound like that's the case. Makes me wonder where he'd be if he had redshirted at DE last year instead of wasting a year at TE.
