I was planning on watching it live last week but that didn't happen. So I Tivo'ed it.
Here are some thoughts:
* Texas signee Adrian Colbert is a top-notch physical athlete. He is fast, he is big and he has some suddenness to him. That being said, he was not a natural at safety. He made one nice pass break up and one nice tackle but was otherwise quiet on D. I was expecting a little more in run support but he was lined up 15 yards off the ball so I get it. Still, he didn't stick his nose in there all the time and help clean up some tackles like he'll be expected to do in college. Physically, I could see him growing into a Demarco Cobbs-type role. He is that big. Very much like him, but he has a ways to go to get a feel for coverage IMO. He also caught a short pass and turned it upfield nicely for a 15-yard gain. He showed some acceleration on that catch.
* I didn't track them all, but Nick Jordan who is the only other future scholarship Horn on the roster had five out of six touchbacks. They were generally 5-to-10 yards deep into the end zone.
He had one short kick - to the five yard line. Of course, the kickoff was coming from the 40-yard line, so college will be different.
Other notes:
* Trent Momon, who originally committed to A&M but is headed to Trinity Valley, was the best player in the game IMO.
* Avion Edwards, an RB who is headed to Baylor, was the best RB. Very functional runner, strong, well put together, good vision and savvy. May lack a little top end speed but not much. Not all that different from Ganaway IMO.
* Reggie Davis is a nice player. I can see him as a future NFL receiver. May never be a superstar or anything like that, but should be good.
* Hawkins, a receiver going to Arkansas, has excellent hands and body control. Good route runner, too. Not a speedster, and is quicker than fast.
* The two best quarterbacks were Clayton Nicholas of Abilene Cooper headed to Tech and Rex Dausin headed to Houston. I started off liking Nicholas more but the South kind of got used to him about midway through the second quarter, whereas Dausin kept growing on me. I can see both of them being starting QBs at their respective schools but I'm not sure either will ever see time in the NFL. Dausin might because he has a stronger arm and is slightly more athletic.
* The overall talent level of this game is so vastly different than it used to be. But I'm not sure that matters all that much. I personally enjoyed watching a 5-10 linebacker headed to Trinity play his heart out and make more plays than some guys going D-I.
That being said, there's a place for an elite high school all-star game just featuring Texas players. And right now, there isn't one.

Sad, really. Maybe we could get an apparel or "athletic" beverage company involved. That seems to be the requisite these days.

Thanks for the write up Bobby,
I can remember when the Oil Bowl was the biggest thing going then the THSCA game replaced it.
Didn't even realize it was on.
My last strong memory was watching Bomar carve up the game and thinking "oh crap".
"I've heard some of our fans say, 'We were always an SEC school. We just didn't know it," athletic director Bill Byrne said.
