This is very well written and spot on. Two thumbs up, txhookem78!! There has to be accountability that transcends from the coaches to the players...has to be, or the result is as he stated, the crappy attitude/players are vindicated, and the players given their all develop a 'what the hell' attitude when the crappy/attitude players continue playing. It really IS that easy of an assessment.
To get the players off the field that aren't giving their all should come from their position coaches...BUT...they have to be backed up by the head coach. Then & only then will you see better effort play after play, game after game.
The inconsistentcy has been present for YEARS...when they are up & ready to play we see games like Colorado 70-3, but when they are down we see games like Texas A&M 12-7 (remember that one? If we win at home, we win the frickin Big 12 Conference Championship!!).
It doesn't take a $5 million head coach or $1m coordinators to achieve this accountability either. A good high school coaching staff from Katy, Texas could get this done...trust me.
If there aren't adequate players on the bench to replace these guys just going through the motions...then stop recruiting their asses!!
If this team had the WIT mentality of the '90 team, this game would be a top 10 match up.
I still have the VHS tape of that season sans the Miami game. I dug it out and watched and said to myself, "now that was a team with pride!". Not saying they wouldn't have lost to OU, but they wouldn't have been scared.
