VY and the NFL revisited

  • Watching the recent success of Wilson, RGIII, Kaepernick and Cam Newton, it makes me wonder what VY might have been like if he had played for a coach that was willing to embrace what he did best, rather than try to make him conform to a standard NFL offense.

Would like to see Vince get in great shape and get hooked up with the Chiefs. Would be fun to see Jamal and Vince running the zone read. Know NFL defenses will catch up to it but they are having trouble stopping it right now. San Fran last night for example.
Vince is a far better QB when they just cut him loose. He is not a pocket QB for sure.

  • He just needs to catch on somewhere at this point. Obviously it'd be nice if the HC and OC were more progressive in their views of offense but just collecting a pay check and repairing his image within NFL circles should be the short term goal.

  • Inaccurate, and can't read defenses.

  • While that may be true, it's still up to him to put in the work. He had some early success. But NFL players become savvy to what you do and VY didn't put in the work it takes to compete in that league.

If the Bills trading to get Tavares Jackson and dumping him aren't a reality check for him, I don't know what is.

  • Down vote? Now I won't be able to sleep tonight.

    57% completions %, 46 td's to 51 interceptions.

Inaccurate and can't read a defense.

Top 10 college football player of all time though, IMHO.

  • The dream of Vince succeeding in the NFL is gone. Other QBs succeeding doesn't make Vince a better pro.

  • Feel like VY was 5 years too soon for the NFL.

Yup. Sadly, I doubt he sees snaps in the NFL again.

But, for us Longhorn fans, we'll always have those Rose Bowls and the BCS crystal trophy.

Signatures are stupid. You should block them.

  • I would absolutely love for VY to get another chance and completely agree his talents were grossly mis-managed and I put the blame squarely on Fisher for intentionally manipulating the situation as pure PR nonsense. My concern is he was SLOW when he would take off and run in Philly. I really think when he pulled his hammy's a few times in a row near the end of his time in Tennessee and start of his time in Philly that he lost his confidence in just opening it up and going 100% when he was running. He's had a few years off now to rehab and change his body, so hopefully that wouldn't be an issue if he's given another chance.

That wasn't the problem. He just took 5 seconds to make his second read

The true test of a man's intelligence is how much he agrees with you.

The myth that Vince was not a good quarterback in Tennessee is absolute nonsense. In 2009, he was 4th in the league in QBR and in 2010 he was on the same pace before he was hurt and benched for wanting to play (note: he was benched by the same guy who benched Bo Scaife for supporting Vince). He was rookie of the year and a two time pro-bowler. I understand that going to the pro-bowl isn't the end all of accomplishments, but it certainly doesn't make one bad. He twice took over bad teams and made them good.

He did all this while being submarined by his head coach at every turn AND being put in an offense that wasn't tailored to his skills.

  • Tennessee sure has had qgreat luck since the ditched him ... not.

    Pure myth.

Look up his 2009 and 2010 stats.

VY's problems were always off the field, his clashes with Fisher, and what people seem to forget are his numerous injuries. He never once finished a season injury free, that's a pretty big deal for coaches to take a chance on, and its robbed him a bit of his mobility, he could still run in 2011, but was no longer elite with his legs.

His latest run with the Bills didn't end because of his performance, anyone who watched the preseason could make an argument he could push Fitzpatrick for the job, even though he wasn't going to be given that opportunity. He was let go from the Bills because of the huge distraction of his lawsuit with his wayward former moneymen and those they borrowed money from under VY's name.
