  • Considering where Ohio State is after the issues, a great hire.

And Meyer is very smart. He knows Braxton Miller is the QB to make his system/scheme go. Smart coach takes a job with a good young QB, and not just a job. He now has the ability to climb the mountain again quickly IMO.

The three school always talked about behin the scenes with him was Penn State, Ohio State and Texas.

  • Lot of back pedaling going on this morning. But where there's smoke, there's fire.

If this holds, I'm glad he's not coming here. Texas is not the right fit for an Ohio man. Just ask John.

Give me a break, Meyer is a great fit for any school.

  • Am I the only one who thinks the "health issues" are bullsh*t?

He's only been out of coaching a year. All of the sudden he's better?

    doesn't pass the smell test.

A little of both for me.

I think Meyer understands timing of leaving, and taking a job 100%.

That's your opinion. But I'm not cutting you slack unless you come with a reason. The question is do you want a coach that is going to burn out in a 3-4 year stretch and then leave your program blowing in the wind? MY OPINION is that the track record for the money may not be cut out for a place like Texas. You differ. It happens.

He'd hardly leave a program blowing in the wind if he hung around for 4 years while winning two conference championships and a MNC. Just a thought.

Me too. The mess Will inherited will take some time to clean-up. And Meyer without Mullen? Meh.

Same here. He didn't exactly leave the cupboards stocked at Florida like many think.

Mullen and Charlie Strong were a big part of his success there.

  • It's really hard for coaches to duplicate their own success stories. A lot of things have to fall in place. Playing in cold weather can make you rethink your wide open offense.

  • If you've been coaching football all your life then regardless of health, family, whatever, it is an eventuality that you go back to what you enjoy doing best after a break of starting to feel bored and out of place. Give it some time and the grass starts looking greener on the other side of the fence. Having said that, I think the reasons for leaving Florida last year was BS.

I'd have to partially agree wih you on Mack being a "dead weight" to our program. He has positive attributes as follows:
    1) Great recruiter
    2) Great diplomat for UT
    3) Genuine concerns for the psyche and well being of the players
    4) Great wife baking cookies for players
    5) Willingness to uproot the assistant coaching staff and hire younger, progressive and innovative offensive and defensive coaches (although the honeymoon period for Harsin seems to be dwindling)
    6) Politisizing the media well

Downsides to his management as a HC:
    1) Perpetuating sense of entitlement (although this has been addressed and he seemed to be willing to make the change after about 5-6 years of clamoring fromthe fans and he seemed to be reluctantly to do so
    2) His self proclaimed title as a CEO of college football. If one is to perceive his view as a football program being managed as a corporation, Mack seems to be the fat cat on he top of the corporate ladder/hierarchy
    3) Lack of that firey intensity we see with Saban, Miles, Stoopsie etc. With the exception of the emotional outburst from the call against Vacarro and the "space allowed for our receiver" being overlooked by the official and at the same time/game the opponent have displayed a significantly more aggression and interference with the intrusion of the space for the punt returner. And I fully concur and applaud Mack and Major getting into the zebras faces for these f*cked calls
    4) Finally, I do not wish anyone to misinterpret the aforementioned opinions as a personal attack against Mack. I genuinely believe that he has an indisputable passionfor the game and his loyalty to my alma mater but unfortunately, times has changed in college sports, particularly football, with the WIN NoW mantra and expectations. I do not have a crystal ball/eight ball telling me how Mack would fare the next 2 games remaining on the schedule, but I remain cautiously optimistic about the next season. If he enables/perpetuates the way he has been running the program as if it's 10-12 years ago, or become complacent then as an alum, and as a ardent supporter of The University of Texas, I would call for drastic changes at the HC position.

  • If we want Meyer we do not have to jump the gun. When Mack does leave Meyer will leave OSU and fly as fast as he can to UT and it's fertile recruiting ground.

He runs the kind of offense that's too quarterback intensive.

We needed VY and Colt to make Davis' offense work. He needed Tebow.

I like what we are trying to do now much better.
