I'm going to put this in very simple terms. This kid plays at Cedar Park. We took Dom Espinosa in 2010 and Chet Moss in 2011. Drango was an easy target, who had been thoroughly evaluated over the last 2 years and Texas still didn't offer. In fact they offered Taylor Doyle and Marcus Hutchins instead of Drango.
If the coaches believe Drango is a sure fire OT than they're taking a big risk. He won't be able to contribute for at least few years and there are 2 other legitimate OT's that have higher upside long term in state. The great thing about Westerman was he would have contributed next year. Drango can't do that.
So why take a project that might never contribute? Just so you can have "depth". That's not smart.
I think taking offensive lineman is "low risk". You need 10 of em to fill out the 2 deep roster. It is far more important for an offensive line unit to be "good across the front" than great at a single slot. I don't question anyone's research on Drango's pedigree, but bring em in by the bushel and let's see Wylie make some of em "guys" and some of em "girls".
