Update on 5-star DE Lorenzo Carter

  • Texas has offered

5-star defensive end Lorenzo Carter focuses on hoops for now

Defensive end Lorenzo Carter may be the No. 3 overall player in the 247Sports rankings, but this time of year football takes a backseat to hoops.

  • Texas wasn't mentioned. Giles will quit.

  • It will be tough to take him out of the sec. I hope we end up putting a lot of effort into hia recruitment. I think Mack has a tendency to back off if he doesnt stand a chance, but I believe this one should be full on effort until the end.

    Tough? Absolutely. Impossible? Hardly.

This kid will likely never mention Texas or visit Texas, all the while visiting schools like Notre Dame and USC. Why? Because Notre Dame and USC aren't fucking scared to go fight for a kid.

Every year we see USC pull guys from Florida. How do they do it? USC isn't afraid of wasting their time, or being laughed at because of how far away it is, or anything else that scares Mack from recruiting coast to coast. Ed Orgeron is the best in the business and takes zero days off.

Every year we see ND pull guys from all over the South, California, and Texas. They are located in South Bend, freaking Indiana. How do they do it? Persistence.

Last year we saw Urban Meyer put on a national recruiting clinic that has Mack shaking in his boots. Ohio State got the same amount of top 20 Texas kids as The University of Texas did. Yeah, that happened. I wonder if Urban said "oh, don't go to Texas, Mack has it on lock..." They then got two kids from Florida, two from Georgia, one from North Carolina, one from South Carolina, one from Cali, and one from New Jersey. Recruiting in SEC land, out West, or even in Mack Brown's backyard did not scare Urban to death.

Carter cares about his academics, allegedly. He also wants to play in a 3-4. He also likely wants to go somewhere that has a semblance of a history putting ends/3-4 backers into the league.

    Check, check, check

Carter also isn't from the South. He's not some kid that grew up in backwoods Mississippi and isn't going to stray far from home. Hell he's visited San Antonio before.

But because of this interview where Carter didn't mention Texas, Mack and Giles will quit, as all hope is lost. He wasn't immediately enamored by the fact that Texas picked up a phone and offered, so he isn't worth the time and effort.

If I'm not mistaken, Meyer also had the blessing from the NCAA to do all the recruiting he wanted while everyone else was actually playing or coaching football. But like I said I may be mistaken. With that said, I do agree with you though.

Maybe I didnt word it right, but this is exactly to what I was alluding to. Mack has come out and said that if he does not think there is a chance, he wont go out of his way to waste his time and the university's money on that player. That is somethinf that upsets me so much and hope that we can somewhere a long the way get someone who has the balls to get out of Texas and recruit the player if he is worth every penny. I still remember Clowney stating that he wished Texas would have recruited him. Who cares if we dont stand a chance or the chance is very small, who said that is the determining factor. Football makes the university millions upon millions of dollars, so freaking use them!! I hate Macks mentality to just recruit the state. I agree tgat Texas produces the best talent, but there are special gems in other states. I just completely disagree with Mack on this one. I highly doubt Carter gets recruited just because mack is mack...

You worded it fine. I wasn't taking a shot, more expanding on your comment.
