Will NCAA self-impose sanctions on itself for lack of control in naming Graham Spanier to chair Emmert's Group on Athlete Welfare? Hmmm.

"A source who also called the penalties unprecedented and harsh told ESPN's Joe Schad they will likely include a loss of bowl appearances and/or scholarships. It is expected the NCAA Division I Board of Directors and/or the NCAA Executive Committee has granted Emmert the authority to punish through non-traditional methods, the source said. To any degree, the NCAA is taking unprecedented measures with the decision to penalize Penn State without the traditional due process of a Committee on Infractions hearing.

The NCAA has a system in place in which it conducts its own investigations, issues a notice of allegations and then allows the university 90 days to respond before a hearing is scheduled.

Following the hearing, the Infractions Committee then usually takes a minimum of six weeks but it can last into upwards of a year to issue its findings.

But in the case of Penn State, the NCAA appears to be using the Freeh report -- commissioned by the school's board of trustees -- instead of its own investigation, before handing down sanctions."

So does this mean the end of PSU in the Big 10? If so, can you imagine Mizzu taking their spot? For some reason that would give me great pleasure. SEC, SEC, rrrr Big 10

Makes you wonder if the rumors of them getting booted out of the Big 10 are true.

As long as they let the players go without having to sit out..I'd be ok with harsh unprecedented penalties..

If the NCAA decides to punish Penn State, it has to be the death penalty. Otherwise, the NCAA is saying that the Pay for Play at SMU was a worse offense than the coverup and facilitation of child rape at Penn State. I'm still undecided if this should really be NCAA territory, but if they get involved, they have to use the death penalty. Anything less would a horrible statement about how severe an act child rape is.

Paterno family statement on removal of Joe Paterno statue.

"Tearing down the statue of Joe Paterno does not serve the victims of Jerry Sandusky's horrible crimes or help heal the Penn State community.

We believe the only way to help the victims is to uncover the full truth.

The Freeh report, though it has been accepted by the media as the definitive conclusion on the Sandusky scandal, is the equivalent of an indictment - a charging document written by a prosecutor -- and an incomplete and unofficial one at that.

To those who truly want to know the truth about Sandusky, it should matter that Joe Paterno has never had a hearing; that his legal counsel has never been able to interview key witnesses, all of whom are represented by lawyers and therefore unavailable; that there has never been an opportunity to review critical evidence which has not been made public; that selective evidence and the opinion of Mr. Freeh is treated as the equivalent of a fair trial.

Despite this obviously flawed and one-sided presentation, the university believes it must acquiesce and accept that Joe Paterno has been given a fair and complete hearing.

We think the better course would have been for the university to take a strong stand in support of due process so that the complete truth can be uncovered.

It is not the university's responsibility to defend or protect Joe Paterno.

But they at least should have acknowledged that important legal cases are still pending and that the record on Joe Paterno, the board and other key players is far from complete."

This one seems to fit in this situation.

Looks like PSU engineering students made a bad bet...this from a poster at BSD. Better to learn the lesson of life's risks early on.

I can tell you this;

My company (a very large engineering firm) canceled all recruiting visits to PSU since the Sandusky mess. PSU is one of our pipeline schools for college hires, along with MD and VT. I don’t think they are deliberately not hiring PSU grads, but they certainly aren’t going out of their way to get more of them like they used to.

Don't be suprised if a couple of the PSU players end up in Waco
