The Big 10 commissioner, Jim Delany, wants the ability to fire coaches in the league. The article only states head coaches.
But can you imagine someone other than the University of Texas firing its own coach? Why not give that power to the governor of the state?
Good lord.

Over the last 6 months or so, Delany's been in the news quite a bit for variety of reasons...maybe Delaney should be fired even suggesting this ...his ego seems to be getting the upper hand over his intelligence
& soon Delany will follow with the standard "my comment was taken out of context"...or "what I was trying to say was..."

The Big 10 presidents ought to meet and dismiss him. Some time people can be in power at a place for too long, so much so that it erodes rational thinking.

Thanks Bobby, what a crazy concept. I guess I see where it's rooted (PSU) but that seems crazy to me.
Your passing comment on governors gave me pause as a Texas citizen. I think our governor might enjoy that power.

Exactly. As someone once said, there is nothing more dangerous than a bureaucrat who is allowed to stick around too long.
Delaney seems to forget that he serves at the behest of the Big Ten school presidents. He thinks this is about him. He's the polar opposite as a Commish that Dan Beebe was...Beebe was viewed as a pawn controlled by a school or two (Texas, OU), while Delaney thinks he's too powerful to even answer to a school and that the schools should be run from the conference Commish's office. Both are flawed models.

He should probably start polishing the resume because his job depends on how Athletic Directors and Presidents feel about him and they are the ones who supervise the coaches.

There is a lot of irrational thinking going on and proposals to put power where it does not belong. Bad things happen, but there are channels to mete out the proper punishments without creating new powers for organizations or positions.
