This doesn't concern me yet. I don't use hotels in either case but traffic would be a nightmare if both events are held on the same day. I expect the FIA will be the one to reschedule but at this point there is more than enough time for either entity to do so. It's in no one's best interest to create an issue of this nature.

Sounds like it's possible, but it also sounds like some plans have already started to be made for next year's F1 race. I'd hold off on buying your hotel until the FIA holds its meeting in December.

Dave Behr I'd hold off on buying your hotel until the FIA holds its meeting in December.

it would be impossible w/ the way they had it set up this year. they'd have to move the bus site to zilker, or maybe berger.

Agreed. Forgetting about traffic and hotels, I don't think there's enough room in the city to have a ton of tailgaters and an F1 fan fest.

the fan fest and tailgating wouldn't collide. you'd have to move the shuttle bus location from 15th/trinity though. and traffic and hotels would make it miserable anyway - the damand for f1 hotels and overall capacity is going to do nothing but increase next year after the rave reviews the event/track/hosting is getting.
still not sure how they got scheduled on the same day. what happened to ut's alleged power in the b12 offices? can they not request to not play on certain days that conflict w/ big happenings in the city? no games in austin in october, but 3 in november?

that's isu and ou - 5th and 12th. bye and tcu could have been altered pretty easily, imo.

Regardless, very proud to be a Texan in Europe! All of my buddies who are F1 fans have been ravin about the show in Austin. Sweet!

While the U.S. Grand Prix was originally set to take place in Austin, Texas in June of next year, Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone has made the decision to move the event to November 18, 2012.

Updated August 31, 2011: The FIA, Formula 1's ruling body confirmed today that the inaugural U.S. Grand Prix will be held November 18, 2012 at the new Circuit of the Americas track being built in Elroy, just southeast of Austin.
August 4th, 2011: U.S. Grand Prix officials had little comment about the proposals which are again pretty much business as usual for F1. According to the Austin American Statesman, the USGP is continuing to prepare for the original June race date. No doubt they would love a little extra time to get the track ready though.

Organisers of the 2012 US Grand Prix are confident that Bernie Ecclestone's proposed date change for next year's event will not affect their eligibility for state funding.
After Ecclestone said the race in Austin will move from June to November on next year's calendar, promoter Tavo Hellmund confirmed it was the date "I have been hoping for". But a side-effect of the change is that, due to the wording of the Texan legislation, the $25 million state funding for the project can only be released one year before the event takes place.
The Circuit of the Americas has already applied for the funding on the basis of the June date, but the organisers are confident that switching to November will not be a major setback.

and yes, i know the june date was never set in stone. and no, i don't think f1 will be moving the 2013 date - there's nowhere to move it to.
