Tyrone Swoopes did not get picked as a QB??

  • In every clinic and every camp Swoopes may have killed it, but he had a rocky start at each one of them and it took him some time to get on track... so it's obvious that he's getting in a lot of round ball & baseball work over the last 4-5 months and not so much football/passing work.

With the Elite 11 Comp. cranking up in 10-11 days in So. Cal, he needs to drop the b-ball & the bat & glove and start picking up a few hundred footballs and getting in some passing work & remember the things that each coach has told him at all those camps!

This is how I feel. He's going to college to play football. At a very prestigious university with uber high standards. It's time to focus on what got you a free ride. +1.

Apparently some people are pretty pissed about my post regarding him not throwing many spirals yesterday. The internet is serious business.

I'm not pissed at all personally. Just think you're wrong on this. Ut755's take on the other thread is exactly right IMHO.

That's the cool think about these boards. We all have our own opinions. Hell, my opinions have been wrong before and they'll be wrong again. I think when we get to a point where we put "rules" in place to govern peoples opinions we are headed in the wrong direction.

  • The lemming mentality on these message boards is entertaining. I wonder how many people here have been influenced by the less than glowing opinion of Swoopes through the eyes of the mods. I would guess more of you than would be willing to admit it.

To be fair it is not just here. Swoopes stock is much higher on OB...the mods there like him better.

I haven't seen enough of him to form an educated opinion one way or the other and I'm guessing most here haven't either. He's an exceptional athlete that need more coaching. That much I will agree with. Anything more extreme to either side of the spectrum (he is the next VY or he will never amount to anything as a top college quarterback) is nothing more than uninformed speculation.

Agree completely OK... with that said, these drills & comp. times are only maybe 50% and while it is part of the 'game' to be invited & participate in unique competitions, you still have to show up & compete! No matter how well or how poorly T. Swoopes performs, I want him to compete & succeed at whatever he does and will support his progress... Hook 'Em

  • I was referring to his two NC's

"Pavlov was this scientist guy, you know, and every time this dog would ring a bell, Pavlov would eat."

    Kelso

  • You mean he didnt come out and throw perfectly thrown balls to receivers running precisely timed routes whom he hadnt met or played with ever? Color me shocked!

I think Tebow played a lot better competition in HS and was a better thrower of the ball than Swoopes at this level. Tebow had the heart of a champion. He willed his teams to wins and fired everyone up around him.

What do you know about this kid to say that he does not have those qualities? Not saying he does either, but assuming and make it sounds like a fact is not good

Because he's said it himself that he's not a rah rah guy and he gets annihilated in the post season by terrible competition.

  • Swoopes had this to say about the tweets last night (from OB):

I just talked to Swoopes. He is playing with a chip on his shoulder. The chip and the tweets last night are because his 7on7 coaches told him he was the last QB taken and they were the underdogs because of him. Swoopes said if no one believes in him he is going to believe in himself. His teammates have rallied around him.

Not a good game for Swoopes for sure.

Saying he should have stayed home is a bit much though.

  • I don't want somebody who wins the 7 on 7 before his senior year in high school. I want someone who wins the NC his RS junior year in college. Man, this stuff gets old.

i apologize.. i think he's an unreal athlete..

do you really want an old neb style qb? it may be time to bring back the Bellard Bone with him and the rbs..

go get cody thomas or jt barrett (stud) and move swoopes to flex/rec

  • I don't think there is a sure fire, can't miss qb in Texas this year. I like our chances with TS.

In fairness I believe he had an INT free game in game #1 (with a little luck on 2nd to last pass) and led them to the victory.

In addition he played very well in 2 of the 3 games at the rivals event in Atlanta a few weeks ago.

To say he will be a wing T QB based on a single game is a little over the top. He is definitely a work in progress but he is 16 years old. No need to write him off of one bad game when he has obviously had good games as well.

  • If he works his ass off he can be an awesome QB at Texas he has a cannon and looks like he can make read progressions. He needs to find a Qb coach ala Brewer last year. But if he can Do that just picture him with the O-line we have recruited the past 2 years plus J-Gray and a few upper classman receivers. I'd def. throw down some hard earned cash on that team.

Very true. Not a lot of seperation at all.

  • All I will say is this, and I am not saying he will be like Vince, but everyone said VY would never do anything as a QB. In fact most Longhorn fans were ready for him to move to WR....and don't act like most of you didn't.
The benefit Swoopes will have is at least 2 years of learning in Harsin/Applewhite's system. And 7 v7 isn't everything, he can't run, not his format yet.
Was his performance less than par with other QB's? Absolutely, am I ready to fall off his wagon? No way.

Lots of learning to go in his career, as long as he is willing and able to do the work he will be fine.

brother, I am being honest and some of you guys are in denial

the guy's the top 1-3 athlete on the field. But he's not a qb. Not in today's game.

I didn't need to see one game. I have watched a lot of his film. You don't teach someone how to throw a football at 18 years old. You tweek mechanics..

As I stated, you go and get a 2nd qb right now. You don't risk it. I don't know if you can steal Barrett or Cody thomas but I would try my darndest...
