Two Things

  • 1. We have the 3 best running backs in Texas! And our coaching staff seems to not know how to use all 3 at one time, SO why not put in the Wishbone back into play? If Mack wants a running team, he'd have all three of his talented backs on the field! Of course Mack was quick to say in the newspaper today that he was putting the Wishbone back into archives. Does make you wonder about how great it might be to watch Gray, Brown and Bergeron waiting on a hand off from Ash!
    2. Explain to me why Case wasn't given plays in which to score a touchdown when we were down there near the goal line? It's not like we did not put points on the board even if it was a field goal. I absolutely HATE our play calling at times! I can promise you if that had been ou or most any other team we play, they would be going for the touchdown! Damn Mack anyway! He can 't get out of Austin fast enough for me!!!!!

And when OU did throw a touchdown, up by more than three touchdown, with less than two minutes left in the game, people would talk about how classless Stoops is for running up the score. I know everyone wants to find as much negative as they can right now, but be happy with a good win. That doesn't mean you have to forgive or forget everything else that's happened, it just means you don't have to find a reason in everything to be in a crappy mood.

I agree that if you’re going to put Case in, you need to give him a chance at getting some throwing reps in, but that's Mack being Mack. He goes for classy over substance sometimes and while another TD wouldn't have a made a difference in the manner in which we won the game, it would have given Case some meaningful reps against another quality opponent on D. That for some reason is always lost on Mack, only for him to say, "I wish we could have got Case in to the game sooner". My response has always been "why didn't you then"??? You never know when your going to need your back-up and while Ash is back on a roll, it never hurts to give your back-up some opportunities. We certainly have learned that lesson before haven't we?

  • I guess what I am saying is if you're going to put points on the board anyway, why not let Case try for the end zone? It has nothing to do with being happy or unhappy about a score or game. I am just merely saying that Case should have been given some plays to make a score.

And Mr. Blurred Vision, I am not in a crappy mood. I think we need to let our players play the damn game and quit thinking we may hurt someone's feelings if we score too many points on them.

  • i don't know about bringing back the bone; that seems a little extreme. but i have posted on this a couple of times that i would like to see them run a few plays out of the old pro set, split back formation which mackovic ran a lot where both backs play an equal roll. i'm not saying run 30 plays out of it; but 5 or 6 a game would be useful.

I don't completely disagree. I just don't think you're going to get that with Mack.

  • Yep, definitely need to install a completely new offense for the remaining two games on the schedule as our current running schemes could never match up to the wishbone

That is what I'm saying. I am not suggesting that we should scrap everything for the Wishbone, but it makes sense to me that some plays from it would sure be a good thing considering our three great backs! The split formation Mackovic ran would also be something to consider. I just think we need to better utilize our great backs and that was one consideration I thought would be something that would work.

So I'm emotional because I want to challenge some of the stupid play calling we get from Harsin and want to see more of our backs (since Mack says he wants an SEC running team) in different formations?????

You know Ironhead, some of you on here are absolutely unreasonable when someone challenges current plays. I am not suggesting that Mack quit whatever he calls his offensive schemes and put the Wishbone in in place of it.

You people make me sick with your holier than thou comments. I was merely suggesting that some form of the Wishbone might be something to think about since we have 3 of the best backs in college football.

My other comment was since Mack did allow 3 points to be put on the board towards our score; why could he have not allowed Case the opportunity to make a touchdown. That seems reasonable to me. If you are going to allow points, why not go for the touchdown?

At this point, I think we actually need to work on our field goal kicking more than getting Case experience. I have been on the "develop the backup" bandwagon as much as anyone in the past, but we need Boyer/McCrary/Jordan to gain experience more than Case right now.

    agree 100%

Case has shown that he is ready to come in if need be, and I think the marginal gain from a guy who will likely not play another important situation throwing passes late against Iowa State is a whole lot less than the gain from getting experience for your shaky, yet almost guaranteed to be needed, field goal kicking team.

What do you mean "our coaching staff seems to not know how to use all 3 at one time"? The coaches did a phenomenal job of getting all three touches on Saturday. Maybe you missed the game because it was on the LHN, but if you look at the stat line, each guy in our three-headed RB attack got 10+ carries on Saturday.

    J Gray - 14 carries for 74 yards
    J Bergeron - 12 carries for 86 yards
    M Brown - 10 carries for 31 yards

That's a great distribution. Running the wishbone effectively is not feasible due to the amount of practice needed to perfect the timing and reads. The offense is doing well right now so there's no need to go and blow the whole thing up to run an offense from 40 years ago.
