Bobby - do you expect Mack to bring others from outside of the state, or start filling the staff with in-state connections? Meaning, do you see somebody from AZ or Cali on the staff that may have connections out west?

& then possibly someone to cover each of HOU, DFW, West Texas, etc?

I could see it a number of ways. But I absolutely think there will be a hire with strong connections in the state.

I think it is a combination of both. You will see some of the best talent scouts from around the country and you will see some with connections within the home borders. The game is changing right before your eyes and if you're putting this type of staff together it's no longer about just locking down the in state kids.

  • Cautiously optimistic. Mack needs to let the guy build his team, however. Mack also needs a slew of "football analysts" to work with the team when the coaches can not.

This is not over. Far from it.

The head coach doesn't just influence policy he sets it. However, Suddes will be responsible for helping Brown understand the environment and needs for the program.

I do that everyday from my couch! I would have been perfect for the job!

So does Mack Brown influence policy still or does he let Patrick Suddes establish his own recruiting policy? How is this gonna work?

Good speculation. If he came from Alabama, he's used to doing it 180 degrees from Mack's approach.

I think this is where you make a Bob Shipley hire

Just because a coach may have done a great job of skills training his own sons doesn't particularly qualify him as the best candidate to evaluate and pull recruits out of DFW, East Texas, or Houston.

He also is well respected by coaches across the state. He has also been a college recruiting coordinator. He has also won a state championship. He's also been the head coach in three distinct areas of the state - central Texas, DFW and West Texas.

He's far from his own sons' accomplishments IMO.

If Brad McCoy is hired I'll be the guy throwing beer bottles at Mack once Deloss allows liquor sales in the stadium.

I hope he gets hazed if he had any involvement with the flip of a certain DT that will remain nameless. On a serious note I am loving the direction the staff is going. Hopefully brings forth sweet fruitage.

"sweet fruitage"! My new favorite. With your permission, I'm going to work it into as many of my posts as I can!

I think he'd be an asset at any program or business. He seems like a great person to have around.
