Why are some of you giving a shit what a kids 40 time is? How many time in a FOOTBALL GAME is a player going to run 40 yards straight without pads on from a starting position? Who gives a shit?
I want smart and athletic football players that play physical and play with passion!! A 40 yard dash doesnt measure anything in football!!! Maybe if we were recruiting these guys for track and field.
Focus on important things that matter, not a 40 yard dash. The NFL and its combine have brainwashed people into thinking a 40 time matters. IT DOES NOT!!
I'm with TheContractor. The 40 yard dash was originally designed to find NFL special teams gunners. That really should be the only thing it ought to be used for. If you have a DT running 40 yards to make a tackle, you may have a problem. The greatest WR in NFL history never broke 4.6, yet never got caught from behind until his last couple of years in the league.
"I've heard some of our fans say, 'We were always an SEC school. We just didn't know it," athletic director Bill Byrne said.
The 40's not an end all, be all for sure. It has it's place, but is a small part of the equation IMO.
Overall quickness, short burst speed/quickness, COD, 10-yard speed and 20-yard speed over 40-yard speed.
