****The Official Fire DeLoss Dodds Thread****

I know lots of folks loved it, but Deloss lost me and my friends when he coined 'We are the Jones'. Everyone knows who the Jones' are, what a completely unnecessary, adolescent, and boorish public statement. To some degree Dodds has just been in a power position too long , his ego is swollen and it overwhelms his judgement. The bad thing is we are in a cycle where the most influential alums are also too comfortable well past their prime as well.

At the time when Dodds was quoted "We are the Jones" I thought it was funny but now I just cringe when it is brought up.

  • Our "big donors" have not lost interest. They have lost influence. Think about that. It happened when DeLoss invited ESPN to the table.

  • Deloss has been AD for 31 years!! We have exactly 1 NC in football and 1 final four in basketball. Simply not good enough for the resources these programs and university offer.

I agree. I think this might have added more fuel for Mizzou, Nebraska, Colorado, and A&M to leave. I understand the Big XII was a dysfunctional family from the beginning. But DeLoss should have been more cognicent of how that would have been received.

Texas has and always will have clout. I think most colleges accept it but I don't think it sits well when someone abuses that clout. Deloss is paid to look out for UT interests primarily and I get that. But he's been heavy handed to the point that he alienated other conference members. He failed to see how cooperating with the rest of the conference would benefit us. Instead he's had the mentality of UT interests and Big XII interests are always at conflict with each other.

  • Mack saved DeLoss' job. DeLoss had already had a long, uneventful run before Mack came.

If you want irony.... DeLoss did not want to hire Mack. He wanted Gary Barnett. But that choice was not supported by Hicks, McCombs, Jamail, etc, and since DeLoss was already on the hot seat he succumbed.

So tell me how many other universities would prolong the firing of coaches that have not produced for at least five years except Texas? I cannot think of one. And I'm not just talking about football here. Take a good look at the major sports that Texas participates in. Name me one coach that should receive more money and extensions to their contracts besides perhaps the golf coach and the women's volleyball coach; possibly swimming. I'm not talking about co-coord either! I'm talking about the head coaches. Dodds, Plonsky and the President of UT need to either get with it and do something about bringing in coaches that want to win every game every year or they should all three resign!!! It's that simple!

Name another coach who has won 10 games as many seasons in the last 15 years as Mack Brown? Have we had 3 seasons below our standard, sure. The fact of the matter is everybody loses eventually, everybody! Joe Pa, Bowden, DKR all had rough patches. Were they fired (well I guess technically Joe Pa. was eventually fired but not related to his winning %)? We all want to be like Alabama now but who wanted to be like Alabama 10 years ago? Notre Dame, Nebraska, Michigan, Miami, Tennessee, and USC the same. Several of those universities fired some of their winningest coaches and still haven't recovered. No one stays dominant forever. Losing sucks sure, but what makes it even worse is a fan base crying so damn much about it. It does no good and a lot of bad.

Baksetball is a slightly different story. I would prefer to get rid of Barnes myself but our program was absolutely nothing before he came so I would still contend he was a pretty good hire. He brought players to our program who we will still be talking about 50 years from now.

I am not sure I need to defend baseball in the least, we have dominated under Augie.

As for the LHN, Deloss believes whole heartily in it. One day you will look back and understand why he went "all in" for it. Do most of you realize half of the money from the network goes to the university, not athletics. As for conference realignment, Deloss has a plan in place if change is needed I can asure you.

We'd probably have the same number of Big12 championships with Gary.

  • The total collapse of the UT athletic department has been astounding.

Volleyball, men's swimming and men's golf are the only bright lights

Our football and men's/woman's basketball programs are in free fall

ESPN cannot be pleased and if they turn the screws on Powers to get it fixed, so much the better.

Dodds and Plonsky are too full of themselves. It is time for wholesale change.

So isn't that scary that in effect DeLoss has sold the voice of approval for our school's athletics to ESPN?

Boosters, Alumni, fans..... don't matter. You have no voice. This can't end well.

The Belmont country club is making money. Whether you like it or not is immaterial, because as long as ESPN is writing checks, they have academia on their side.

This whole quagmire just continues to unfold just as I knew it would when DeLoss sold our soul 2 years ago.

Right. I was (am) one of those LHN haters from day one. And as each day passes, hopefully you begin to see why.

DeLoss has really done a job on us.

Of course we realize how the money is halved out to academics. From DeLoss' perspective, that was a move of pure genius. He probably jumped around the bedroom the night he woke up and thought of that. That was a way to get anything he wanted done, to cut academia in on it. And furthermore, a way to guarantee that the University would stand by him to the bitter end, disenfranchising what the fans or boosters thought.

Doubt it but I want him gone.

Hate his views on expansion and conference affiliation among other things.
