If Texas gets their home and home, why should we care whether ND plays Baylor or not?

    this.

I'm an admitted College Football Elitist. so i mostly agree with the above. If we can get ND to 4-5 games/ year I'm good with that. That's just how I feel. But, I also can see how that could be destabilizing to the conf.... But, if we get ND at home every other Thanksgiving........who cares. :) As the great T.O. once said "I loves me some ME!"

Of the others mentioned, I look at how willing I am to get the wife to take the 3 year old and the 6 month old by her self for the weekend so I can go to the game..... so here is my measuring stick..........

ND- yep. I'd give her something sparkly too.

FSU- yes and I'd fly her friend in from out of town (thanks AA miles)

    ..
    ..
    ..
    ..
    ..
Clemson/Ga Tech/Miami- yeah, but I wouldn't go promising anything crazy unless they were ranked in the top 15.
    .
    .
    .
    .
    .
Louisville- um. She can have the tix. I'll watch the game at home.

    just sayin.

I can't imagine they would which makes this discussion silly to me. We'll see how this ends up in the end but the likelihood in my mind of FSU alone is almost zero.

I hear you and it's a legit issue IMO. I have asked about that and was told adding no one else immediately is different than waiting a year or two to add another.

Mack Daddy has a foot in the door in talent-rich Georgia!

Maybe something Mack would like more would be to bring in Tennessee. I live in the Colorado mountains and have spoken to many UTenn fans that would love to play Texas and get out of the sec. Mack is a Tenn boy and taking them from the sec would be a real FU to the sec, plus it's not a bad travel for the Big XII. I'm amazed how the Tenn folks have this real liking for Texas. They like the UT/UT, orange and white, orange and white aspect and think an ongoing game between the two would be great. I like Tenn more than FSU or any other team from so far away. Hook'em

SEC teams don't leave the SEC. Not with the supposed SEC Network about to arrive in 2014 and give them even more money. I would also think with this new Champions Bowl partnership that the SEC and Big 12 have agreed to leave each other alone.

This is utter nonsense. I live in Tennessee and there is not one Vol fan that wants out of the SEC. Even with how bad they have been lately, Vol fans look down on the Big 12 as an arena football league (all offense, no defense).

No one, I repeat no one, and once more for good measure, no one is leaving the SEC. In an infinite universe where anything is possible, this is not.

Well he hasn't spoken for everyone in Tenn. Guys I did not make this shit up; people from Tennessee being in my hometown have said these things to me. I admit I was shocked by their comments about their like for Texas. A real surpise was when several told me they likes our orange better than their own.
My point was simple, Mack would love to bring his home state into the Big XII and stick one to the sec.

I don't doubt for a second you have heard all that you say, but why would any team in the SEC want to leave?

  • I don't believe TN produces nearly as much top talent as GA. From that perspective, TN isn't such a good get.

JMO, but the day Tennessee leaves the SEC is the day hell freezes over.

Gonna have to agree with that. I believe everything Bevostevo says as far as what he's hearing from fans, but I highly doubt there's any legitimate interest from the people of power at UTenn to leave the SEC.

A home-and-home series pitting the two schools together is one thing, but Tennessee leaving the SEC is entirely different.

I just don't see them as a program on the rise as some of these others. They've had success in the past, but these other schools mentioned, as all-around programs, I feel bring more to the table. JMO.

I think it's worth repeating, Texas does not want a conference championship game. I think it is more likely that we get 11 teams and play round robin then 12 teams in two divisions with a conference championship game. I have not heard any expressed desire in bringing in a partner school for FSU for example.

If ND agrees to move their olympic sports and play some number of games in the Big 12, that will be approved. FSU if the money is right for them and the Big 12 is a possibility. Everyone else mentioned so far doesn't work from a numbers stand point.

Mack Brown and Deloss Dodds have both pointed out that the Big 12 currently has TCU, OSU, OU, Texas and WVU. All five of these teams played in BCS bowls over the last three years. Strength of schedule is fine. Throwing a rotating ND into the equation makes a MNC path harder, so does FSU. Because of the current strength of schedule, they view the conference championship game as an impediment to winning a MNC. It is nothing about being afraid, the extra game is just stupid.

I don't think the extra game is stupid.

I think a conference championship game is valuable from a media perception perspective (note: that doesn't mean the powers that be at Texas agree with me).

The Big 10's lack of a championship game gave the conference a real black eye compared to the SEC and Big 12.

On the other hand, the ACC got a black eye for having one because they can't fill the stadium, wherever they have it.

  • With all this talk about the easy way to the NC game. Tx needs to take care of business because when we did have CCGs we hardly never made it to it. I think that having a CCGs helps in leapfrogging a team for that final spot. Not having one I can see us or someone in the Big 12 getting past because of another CCGs. I think that the big10 got burn a couple of times because of not having one. JMO

I'm not taking a shot at you ut755, I appreciate your information, but that is the higher ups being scared. You can say the other game is dumb, but boil it all down they are trying to make their path to the championship easier which means they are scared of losing the championship game. It also doesn't help that it seems that is the way our team has operated under Mack. We game-planned scared until VY, we scheduled weak out of conference schedules every year until recently, we wouldn't enter recruiting battles for elite out of state kids and even some in state kids, etc. Wish it weren't true, but it kind of falls in line. Just my opinion of course.

Right now the Big 12 is the second best football conference with only ten teams and has a good current strength of schedule. What happens if some of those teams go back to playing mediocre. I expect Kansas State to go downhill once Bill Snyder retires for good. What if Holgerson, Patterson or Briles leave for better coaching jobs.

I just think a conference needs at least 12 schools to stay a strong conference. Schools that are good in football today may not be in the next couple of years. The original Big 12 was supposed to have three powerhouse schools in Nebraska, OU and Texas but only had two because Nebraska sucked for most of the conference history.

When? I don't think there's been a single season where that's been the case in the history of the BCS. Either they got Ohio State in the game (on three occasions) or they haven't been close enough to even be under consideration for the national championship game. The only time where the Big 10 champ had the same number of losses as one of the top two teams and didn't make it was 2008 when Penn State was 11-1. However, they were ranked #8, which was behind two Big 12 teams that didn't play for the conference championship and two SEC teams.

The Big 12 has been burned more by having a conference championship game than the Big 10 has been burned by not having one. The Big 10 has a diminished reputation, in large part, because of how Pac-12 and SEC schools have treated them in their bowl games over most of the past decade.

    bbliss

  • A CCG may have been important in the current BCS setup, but if the 4-team playoff is adopted, I think it's less so. With or without a CCG, I can't imagine the Big 12 champ not being one of those 4 teams.

  • I, for one, do not agree that notre dame is the bluest of blue bloods. Their glory days were in the 1930's, several schools get bigger tv ratings, have bigger fan bases and make a lot more money. If they join the Big 12, they need to come in with ALL of their sports programs and be subject to the same rules as iowa state, kansas, etc. No special privileges. Or else they can go phuk themselves.
