  • If he in fact turns out to be homosexual, I have a feeling the new pop-culture Internet term 'Kekua" is going to be he new term for a "beard."

Like, oh that's just his Kekua...

And as an aside, IF it is true that he is gay, its really sad that he felt that either his family, his religion, his team, or some combination of the three would not approve or would view him as less of a person.

  • Dan Tudesco, a 2006 graduate who now works in public relations in New York, set up an online account at fundraising website indiegogo.com on Jan. 9 to solicit $5,000 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Inc. The initial pitch said donations would go to the society in memory of Lennay Kekua and in honor of Te'o, "two individuals who have been an inspiration to us through an iconic season."

Tudesco said he and three friends got the fundraising idea after seeing a video that went viral of Te'o holding his head in dismay during the Irish's 42-14 loss to Alabama in the national championship game.

    * * *

Notre Dame took notice of Tudesco's tweets about the fund drive and sent a university videographer to shoot an interview with him. The video was posted on the Notre Dame athletics YouTube channel Tuesday.

University spokesman Dennis Brown didn't immediately respond to a request seeking comment Thursday.

    HAHAHAHAHA

Notre Dame sent someone to videotape an interview with a guy who set up a fundraising site in honor of Te'o and Lennay, and this was after the NC game.

Thamel's transcript of his interview with Te'o about his gf.

Te'o says she was in the hospital starting in April (when she supposedly got his by a drunk driver) I guess through her death in September. How was there never a window during the summer when he would have gone to see her?

Yeah, besides the shitty fact-checking by Thamel due to time constraints, the story is just so unbelievable.

Yes, how many 22 year olds take over in an executive position in a construction company after her 50+ year old father died, all the while, flying to New Zealand to work with kids.

Perfect. Deloss steps in as ND's AD, Mack retires when Texas gets a new AD, and Deloss brings ND to the Big12.

Just enough time for Manti, ND, and the others involved to get their story straight.

    HAVE WE LEARNED NOTHING??

Nobody, nobody in the national media seemed to raise an eyebrow at that statement. Instead they just ate it up just like they did the whole gf story.

If you don't want to listen and would prefer a quick synopsis--

Uncle thinks Tuiasosopo was trying to get money.

"Alema Te’o said Tuiasosopo talked extensively about Lennay Kekua, the woman Manti Te’o came to know as his girlfriend, and told the Te’o family he was trying to raise money for a friend of hers who also had leukemia and attended Stanford. According to Alema Te’o, Tuiasosopo made the monetary request seems as if it was Kekua’s dying wish. Kekua died on Sept. 12 following a short battle with leukemia. The disease was discovered after Kekua had been injured in a car accident with a drunk driver."

The national media have become Mack Brown where their job is concerned. You have to go to places like DeadSpin and 247Sports for the truth.

The national media is dead to me. Lets hope they go off of life support soon for everyone else. Then again, a lot of people may like Pravda.

  • As more people come forward to talk about how Te'o was duped, more reports come out listing the times Te'o kept the story alive despite being alerted it was a hoax.

It's such a tragedy, a tragedy I tell you, that the single most trusting human being can't answer questions and has to rely on his "adviser' to tell us that Te'o is most upset that his family members are victims suffering from the hoax.

    http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/8856519/manti-teo-talked-girlfriend-knowing-hoax

Emmert has it all wrong when he says, "[I]t's hard to tell where the facts lie at this point."

No, no, no, no, no, Mr. NCAA president. The facts don't lie. Te'o and Swarbrick do.

"Swarbrick says university officials understand there is more to be learned, but that based on knowing Te'o, he believes the linebacker is a victim. He says he will continue to believe that until given "compelling evidence to the contrary."

Looks like Swarbrick is trying to give Notre Dame an out.

Looks like Swarbrick is trying to give Notre Dame an out.

After ND knew about the hoax and still sent someone to videotape the sad fan about his fundraiser in honor of Te'o and Kekua, and posted the video on the ND youtube site the day before the Deadspin story came out.

The best way for Swarbrick to give ND a way out is to say, "Man, I totally screwed this up by not insisting the story be refuted immediately upon learning of the hoax. My bad. I resign. Please don't hold my mistakes against the school or its ruling body, since I did not report this matter to them."

Edit: It's interesting that a lawyer would use the term "compelling evidence' in connection with a matter of reputation.

There are three levels of burdens of proof in trials:

    1) preponderance of the evidence (i.e. 50.00001%);
    2) clear and convincing (a standard for determining such things as whether punitive damages are warranted or [i] whether actual malice has been shown in a defamation action brought by a public figure or against someone reporting on a subject of public concern; and
    3) beyond a reasonable doubt (the burden on the state to prove a crime).

Swarbrick very much wants this out of the ordinary civil standard of preponderance of the evidence. He wants us to believe in the innocence of Te'o and himself unless the evidence against Te'o is compelling.

Well, him repeating the story several times after he knew it was false is pretty compelling, Jack, you lying, deceitful asshole.

This guy has the right attitude, calling it what it is -- at least three weeks of failure to disclose fraud by Notre Dame. Maybe most of us weren't damaged by it, but that doesn't change the fact that Swarbrick was a part of an agreement to remain silent about a huge lie that had been foisted on the public.

  • The newest story...

Per Honolulu Star-Advertiser from Te'o family, the imaginary gf faked her death to avoid drug dealers...

    mcb0703

  • Question for the next 24 hours--is Jeremy Schaap just a complete suck up or what?

He took an interview of Te'o without cameras. "When (people) hear the facts, they'll know," Te'o said. "They'll know that there is no way that I could be part of this."

    http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/8859077/manti-teo-notre-dame-fighting-irish-denies-being-part-hoax-late-girlfriend

In the article referring to the interview, there is no indication that Schaap confronted Te'o with questions about why he persisted in the story after December 6. If Schaap failed to ask Te'o any questions about why he persisted with the story, then no one should ever bother to read his tripe again.
