If Gray leaves Texas after just a few weeks this is officially a burn the bridge move. From where I stand this would effectively end his relationship with Texas. It's up to him but after talking with a few people last night it is clear he and Texas would be finished.

Mods, is the thinking that the JG situation gets worked out this week? If not, what will be the impact on the recruiting weekend? If I remember correctly, there is only 1 DB on the invite list (McNeil), and he is not even sure he will make it. Am I wrong to think the impact would be minimal?

$ may not be the exclusive driving factor. but what's the next step if you are a highly successful NFL coordinator? wouldn't it be climbing the ladder to NFL head coach? it seems the final goal for many.

gray has already been a dc in the nfl and even up for head jobs there in the past. has spend a lot of years in the league. nothing new for him here career wise. it would be absolutely stunning if he backed out of texas and burned his bridges here just to go back to the nfl. stunning per everything people have said about him and his feelings for texas

Jerry had to know that nfl jobs would come along when he accepted the Texas job. Certainly he considered what his response to that would be before he accepted.

FYI ... some reports have surfaced that Gray has not been in contact with Tennessee. Those reports are false.
Both the American-Statesman and Hookem.com have confirmed Jerry is a serious candidate for the job and he's been in contact with Tennessee.
OPINION PART: While nothing is official, my gut feeling is the job is his if he wants it.

Sorry if this has already been asked of board, but what, if any, impact does this "coaching change noise" have on upcoming Junior day defensive participants? (Sorry SoCalHorn1...should have read through the posts.)

His son just enrolled at TEXAS, and Gray just purchased a house. But if that actually happened, I could see Mack going after Sanders that just left Nevraska.

TXStampede, no worries. I still have not heard any opinions on the subject, so maybe your post will get some. Just hoping some news comes out either way before the weekend, so the staff can respond accordingly. Hate to have a big ? slow any momentum we had heading into the weekend with the Brewer commit.

While I agree that his decision will not be about money, this new opportunity is more than just money it is also a promotion. I think Gray's ultimate goal is to become HC at Texas, and I think in order to do that he needs to put in the time to learn how a college football program is run. I think Gray will sacrifice this opportunity because he knows that he is positioning himself to try and take over when Mack hangs it up.

Does the Tevin Jackson news change what Texas will do at LB? If nobody transfers, Texas will have 10 LBs on campus for 2012, two of which are seniors. 2 in 2012 would bring it back to 10 LB, and 3 would bring it to 11... aren't both of those kind of high?

Not sure Nkwopara ever gets significant time. I have my reservations about Moss, and Edmonds and/or Thompson could possibly end up at DE. Even though they are 10 names there I don't think the position is as deep as it looks. Jackson becoming eligible definitely helps the position.
