That's pretty much exactly how I feel after that game. The defense will keep them close and if the offense can sustain long drives they'll be in every game in the 4th quarter.

McCoy is probably going to have to go out and win some games this year against better opponents. That may prevent them from reaching the 10-win mark, but Texas has a much better chance of doing it after Saturday IMO.

We win 8-9 games this year if we beat everyone we should and a bowl game. Anything above that requires us to beat someone we, at least for now, probably shouldn't.

I'm not as worried about running on OU. FSU had great success passing against them off of play action even when their ground attack was failing, and I thInk this year will show that FSU is a QB centric team that struggles in the rush ( or would have after Manual's injury).

The players will be open in OU's secondary off of play action and in the wildcat. The question is do we execute and take advantage of those opportunities while holding them down on defense. Landry will do his part to keep it close.

I got brains. I got big ol' brains. I got dinosaur brains.

  • I think the schedule sets up pretty well for this team to have a shot at 10. You have OU and OSU in Oct which are going to be tough to win, although OSU does look like a team we can hang with by grinding it out on the ground since their D is questionable.

With A&M and Baylor as the last two games there is a lot of time for the young guys to continue to grow and for the new systems on both sides of the ball to become more engrained.

It's going to be tough, but there is an outside shot at 10 including a bowl game.

How exciting is this after last year's debacle and 12 years of Greg Davis?

  • The team is much improved and I'm as excited as anyone. But Mizzou on the road is no gimme either. IMO we will be favored in only 3 games of 8 after next week. 8-4 regular season would still be a nice accomplishment.

Cochran played some in the fourth. I didn't see him in the third but he could have been. He made the seal block on Cody Johnson's fourth quarter TD run.

Cochran was in for at least one play in the third quarter. He might have been in on others as well, but he was clearly in the game with 3:35 left in the third quarter. He lined up at TE and made a nice block on the DE on a 7 yard run by Malcolm Brown. After the play was over and the camera zoomed in on Brown getting up and walking away from the pile, Cochran is in the picture.

    +1

Nice to be 3-0 compared to 1-2, which is very well what they could have been.

Now it's time to see if they have the metal or if they're just another team.

    Definitely happy at 3-0.

In terms of "just another team", I don't see it. Even if they don't put it all together this year and finish 8-4 or even 7-5, it will be a special team.

We are still talking about a team that is 50% underclassmen on the two-deep, with new systems on both sides of the ball and mostly new teachers. They may not have put it ALL together yet, but I am very impressed with where they are after 3 games. Just look at the score last year v. this year. That shows we are WAY ahaed of where we were last year as a program.

Plus, Being able to watch these young guys grow up before our eyes this year is awesome.

At the end of the day, I don't think you could ever look at this team this year and say "They're just another team" IMO.

    Enjoy the youth
    Enjoy the talent
Enjoy the game plan (especially on offense)

I'm going to put off worrying about records until next year and enjoy the fun.

In due time this team is going to be back on top

  • Break down those wins for fun!!!

3-0, so far (I was thinking either 3-0 or 2-1. Thought BYU might get us before the season started)

Anything can happen, but we can still make reasonable assessments

    LOSSES:
    ou
    a&m
    osu

    WINS:
    isu
    ku
    ksu

50/50's (maybe slightly better than 50/50)
    ttu (Tubberfield ain't Leach)
@ bu (I bet they wished they caught us a whole lot earlier in the season)
    @ mizzu

    Looks like 8-4 to me.

With the youth the may slip and lose one they shouldn't, but with the talent, they may just as likely sneak in and steal one too.

they will still be special at 7-5 IMO

9-3 would make it an absolutely great year.

10-2 is just not fair to put on this team (WILL BE NEXT YEAR THOUGH!!!!!)

  • I think it is very difficult to tell how good this team is based on the teams we have beaten and i think this team has exceeded most people's expectations thus far. The great thing is that we know this team will continue to improve with what is in place and being put in place by this coaching staff. We shouldn't take any other team lightly and no team should take us lightly.

  • I don't get why the Aggies gets so much respect. After three games I take Texas at every position over the Aggies besides wr and o-line. Tanehill is no better than McCoy/Ash.

Ok. State has a great qb and great wr. Aside from that the always lack depth and have a mediocre defense.

Baylor has an explosive offense but a terrible defense. You run and play keep away like we used to do to Texas Tech.

Texas has more talent (albeit young) and better coaching than every team on their schedule besides ou. We win 10+ games and make a bcs bowl or Cotton worse case.

  • ISU is our next game. Let's win that one before we start predicting wins. We have the kind of team/talent that could lose any of the rest of our games or win any of the rest. There are no "gimmee" games left on our schedule given our unknowns (qb, cb, OL depth, mlb). However, if a lot of these unknowns turn out to go in our favor; some of our 5 stars (both DE's) play up to their abilities; and we get some fortunate bounces; we might win game or two that we aren't suppose to.

  • Yeah, we all know what can happen when a bunch of fans start getting ahead of themselves.

"I've heard some of our fans say, 'We were always an SEC school. We just didn't know it," athletic director Bill Byrne said.

    Not necessarily.

UCLA was not as talented on defense as I thought they would be.

They are that talented. It's just that (a) they're that poorly-coached and (b) Harsin's scheme is that effective.

Take a look at the last TD we had in the first half, the one right after Case's little song-and-dance number. When McCoy released the ball (and for some time before and after that moment), you had two tight ends in that area (DJ and Irby), and one very confused-looking UCLA defender (and an LB, at that, I think) in that region.

If your scheme puts you in a position where you have to choose to defend two guys in a goal-line situation with no help anywhere near to speak of, all the talent in the world isn't going to matter.

It's bad scheme and bad preparation on UCLA's end and good scheme and preparation on ours that made that happen.
