My relatives just moved to Arizona after complaining about the depressing weather conditions in Oregon. They are so happy to be in Arizona after the many years in the cold & wet Northwest.
I have a buddy (Ft. Worth) whose daughter was determined to get away for school. Chose Minnesota (no family), lasted one semester and transferred to Trinity in SA.
A long way from home can still be in Texas!
I left home for college because of where home was... Philadelphia, PA. I didn't like the weather at all. I lasted 5 yrs at Texas & never considered going back to Philly. Each kid is different. I can tell you the cold doesn't seen so bad over a weekend in January - even a bitter cold. He maybe okay with Columbus,OH for a weekend. My parents live outside of Columbus now & I don't mind going up to visit. The same can be said for a weekend in Oregon. My in-laws live just up the road in Seattle so it shares similar weather. A little drizzle is bearable for a weekend. What happens when a Texas kid gets the full dose of either though? Winter in OH sometimes starts in November and they still get down to freezing temps during the morning rush hour all the way into April. The Pacific Northwest is accustomed to only getting 150 sunny days per year. There is a reason why Seattle has a high suicide rate. I love visiting the city but you'd have trouble ponying up enough money to get me to live there. This kid wants to get away from home & play for a sexy school. I get that. I'd go to UCLA before Oregon or tOSU. I can't understand why kids would ever go to tOSU or Oregon if they grew up in Texas.
I got brains. I got big ol' brains. I got dinosaur brains.
