Color me a Major supporter...I think he will turn out to be a great HC for many years to come.

Well said. I totally agree with all of this with the real emphasis being the experience he gained from all the places he's been. You also toss in there how competitive he is and that's icing on the NCake.
If you're not making mistakes, then you're not doing anything. I'm positive that a doer makes mistakes.
I'd like to see what he can do as an OC before speculating on anything after that. He obviously has a storied past with the program and has been a loyal foot solider in the Mack Brown army, but it’s going to take more than that (it should at least) for him to earn the spot at the top. I believe there will be a lot of qualified candidates waiting in the wings when Mack steps down. Major could be one of those guys, but it won’t be because he played at Texas or because he knows the HS coaches in this state. There are others out there with the same type of background (Patterson for example). Feel good stories only “feel good” when there is success to point too and Major will finally have his moment to shine next season. Let’s hope for the programs sake, he is able to lead this offense to a level of productivity that ensures the team gets back to where it belongs in college football. If he can do that, then he deserves to be in the mix when Mack Brown leaves. He certainly can’t do it alone; however he will have an opportunity to make his mark and move Texas back to competing for championships. That above everything else is the most important to me.
