Leading up to the season Hookem.com will spotlight 30 of the most important players on the UT roster. Next up is a player vying to finally give Texas a threat at tight end.

  • It'll be interesting to see if McFarland and Ash can develop chemistry. They both were mid-termers who came in together a spring ago.

  • He was a nice surprise in the spring game. I hope his blocking skills improve come fall because this team is gonna be blitzed all day long

  • They're more concerned about run blocking to start with. They want that threat of both run/pass when he's in the game.

  • twocents...the most important unknown player on the team...4-5 rec per game from MJM could change the entire offense

  • Well, if you watched our TE's last year, then you will see the blocking issue. Our TE's did not even make an attempt to block most of the time. Laying a hand on the defender was not even considered by last year's group of TE's.

So, if he'll just show up, he'll be 75% better than anyone we had last year.

Agreed. There were times it felt like we only fielded 9 players.

Yeah, and it becomes obvious what you're intentions are when you have to shuttle your TEs in and out based on kind of play you want to run. It doesn't take long for opposing coaches to figure that out. Texas needs somebody on the field that can stay in and be just as effective blocking as he can running a route. It would give Harsin so much more flexibility in his play calling.

  • this is one i hope our new coaches show us that they really are different than some we have had recently That not only can they recruit, but they can COACH. They can get real production from guys with some talent. MJ really seems to have the physical skills, and he sure seems to have the attitude. I am going to be a tad (just a little mind you) more optimistic than Alan. I think MJ will have a better year as a blocker than Alan says.

you there, pass that orange cool aid please. I need another drink

As for 2012, I think he ends up with somewhere between 20 and 25 receptions for 300 yards and a couple of touchdowns. Those numbers could double his in 2013.

Think that is about right and about where David Thomas was though he was a true freshman.

    Looking forward to Mr McFarland.

I'm trying to curb my optimism on some of these.

I think I have every player on the defensive line making four-plus sacks ... and that's kind of crazy.

The crazy thing is I don't think that's too far fetched.
