After the draft this weekend, here's how that group shakes out in terms of it's football future.
Sam Acho -- 4th round (2011)
Tray Allen -- possible UFA
Curtis Brown -- 3rd round (2011)
Russell Carter -- last known team was NAIA Evangel University
John Chiles -- UFA (2011)
Brandon Collins -- transfer to SE Louisiana; UFA deal w/ Giants
Ian Harris -- medically retired
Tyrell Higgins -- parted ways with Texas twice during his career
Kyle Hix -- UFA (2011)
Ahmard Howard -- declared academically ineligible before Holiday Bowl; no known football plans
Michael Huey -- UFA (2011)
Blaine Irby -- no known football plans
Cody Johnson -- UFA deal w/ Bucs
Andre Jones -- never played a down, last know action was in 2009 at Tarleton State
G.J. Kinne -- transfered to Tulsa; UFA deal w/ Jets

Malcolm Williams was the biggest bust of that class after starting out very strong in 2008.
What was the story with him leaving?
I always thought that he would have made a much better safety than WR because of his hands, but he would lay people out blocking and on special teams.

At least Akina was 4-for-4...all DB's ended up getting a shot in the league...add in Brewster, Gideon, & Williams (with Gideon in this draft) from 2008, then Akina's 7-for-8 with Brewster having to give up football

just to poor more salt on the wounds, did anyone else notice SMU had 4 draft selections this year...so that made Baylor, A&M and SMU each with more draft picks than Texas...sad, sad day(s)

What's funny is, at the time of these recruiting classes, I remember all the articles written were about how much Texas was capitalizing on the national championship.

four of those on the list should not have been offered. bad luck(injuries), bad kids. the rest? goodness. a few turned out good to great. unexplainable on about half of the class. they were bigtime recruits; not just highly ranked by recruiting sites. Mack wears that tatoo. the bright side? i think that class is anomoly considering what's followed. this draft prooved it. so will the next three.

Texas isn't the worst I suppose. In 2007, Tennessee signed five 5* recruits. But yeah, the 2007 class was a dud compared to the rankings.

Absolutely true. And this happened at a time when Fran's recruiting was starting to falter (once he had a track record to overcome). The talent gap between the two schools seemed to be dramatically widening in Texas' favor, but the rankings didn't tell the whole story.
