Texas basketball next year

  • I'm really excited to see what this team can be next year. Not only will we have an established scorer and leader in J'covan but also a secondary scoring option in McClellan. Add Myck coming back, being smarter with the ball and being able to efficiently running our offense with a solid big man in Ridley. Lastly I expect Holmes to make the biggest jump out of the bunch with Lewis playing a role similar to a better shooting Justin Mason and we got ourselves a very good team! Thoughts?

  • I hope Myck and Ridley are on the team next year.

  • Definite Top 20 team at least if we bring back Brown and Kabongo and have Ridley sign.

For me the team becomes Top 10 if we land Pollard because he's a true small forward that has a lot of talent.

At this point, I am just accepting that we will not have JCB, Myck, or Ridley on the team next year. I will be ecstatic if proven wrong.

    Call me jaded.

  • We will have a top 10 roster if everyone shows up. JCB, Myck, and Ridley. Not sure we'll be a top 10 team but we could be.

I too would like to see J'Covan back for his senior season (purely for selfish reasons), but I think there is a better than average chance that he enters the NBA draft. (No inside knowledge, just my opinion considering his ability and circumstances).

The lure of the NBA is strong. In this mock draft, J'Covan is the 23rd pick in the 2nd round. Also of note, only 4 of the 30 1st round picks are seniors in college, along with 15 of the 30 2nd round picks.

  • JCB and Myck SHOULD NOT go to NBA. J'covan is not an elite player and would be subjugated to the bench at least at this point, Myck would be D-league because, even though he's gotten better, he gives the ball away like free food. Ridley has said he's going to sign so I believe him. BUT the X-factor next year will be guys like McClellan and Holmes, they have a lot of potential.

  • JCB's draft stock isn't going up next year. He's pretty much maxed out.

That where I am at after the last few years

  • If Kabongo wants to go pro, then I've got no problem with that.

I'm not a big fan at all of his game.

J'Covan would be a bigger loss.

Why do people have such a problem with Kabongo? He is playing the toughest position on the court, gives 100% every day, and gets after it defensively.

Is he great right now? No. Does he have potential to be great? Yes. And, it's not like he sucks now. He is a very solid college pg right now......as a freshman.

    HoopsCoach

  • When I saw him at Findlay, I thought, sortakinda looks like TJ. Could get to the basket, and shoot it a little better. Who wouldn't be excited about that?

Problem as I've seen it this year is that he just isn't in synch with his teammates like TJ always seemed to be. He's usually going faster than they are. That'll be great when big guys have better hands and move into position more smoothly... but that's just not happening right now.

He's definitely improved over the last six to eight games. It's helped that McClellan has developed the confidence to take (and make) open shots. Having one more guy that the other team has to guard just opens up the floor for everybody.

  • Exactly, I see guys that don't run the floor with him and bigs that don't catch the ball because they either aren't ready, or can't catch. Due to that he's had to learn to adapt his game while adapting to playing college ball.

Agreed, as long as Brown comes back.

I'm not so sure he will. While I don't think he'll have a long NBA career, his stock might never be higher.

Exactly, I see guys that ... can't catch.

I condensed your statement to focus on this element because it is so frustratingly, repeatedly true. And it's not just the big guys - I've see more passes bobbled on this team than I can remember.

It's like they're wearing mittens. Thick ones. Not the thin, cashmere kind.

  • I have heard from a pretty compelling source that J'Covan is not coming back. If he doesn't make it in the NBA, he will head to Europe. Kabongo is going to test the waters. I think he is likely to get drafted and not return. That said, I am with Gerry. Ridley is the key to next season.
