Textbook first inning for Parker French. Texas' ace gets three ground balls for three outs to start the game for a 9-pitch 1-2-3 inning.
Bottom 1st: 0-0
Horns go down in order as well in the first. Ty Marlow strikes out swinging before Hall and Hinojosa fly out. Quick and quiet start to a huge series for Texas.
Top 2nd: 0-0
No one has reached first through 1.5 innings here at The Disch. French gets another 1-2-3 inning with his first strikeout of the day and two more ground outs. He's looking sharp as usual early.
Bottom 2nd: 0-0
Another perfect inning for both pitchers. A total of 12 up, 12 down through two innings. Payton and Weiss both go down on the first pitch they see, grounder to first and fly to left, respectively, and Felts works a full count but then flies to center to end the inning.
Top 3rd: 0-0
WVU is the first to get someone on base tonight. No. 8 hitter Billy Fleming hits a double to deep right.
1 gone, man on second for the Mountaineers.
WVU can't do anything with the one-out double as French gets two strikeouts swinging to end the threat.
Bottom 3rd: 0-0
Brooks Marlow gets Texas' first hit of the day, a two-out infield grounder to short.
Ty now up to see if he can make anything of this.
Ty goes down swinging after his brother's two-out infield single.
Mountainners seeing French a little better the second time around. Two hits this inning and a fielder's choice on an attempted sac bunt.
One gone and runners on 1st and 2nd for WVU.
Two fly outs to center end the WVU rally. Two hits for the Mountaineers, but two stranded as French is able to work his way through the visitor half of the 4th.
Bottom 4th: 0-0
Erich Weiss done for the day after taking a pitch in the nose. Lots of blood. Nothing too serious, but there's no way he's staying in.
Madison Carter coming in to take the base for Weiss. He's officially done for the day. More on his injury later.
Felts pops up to second to end the inning with Texas base runners on 1st and 2nd. Hall led off the inning with a bunt.
Top 5th: 0-0
French strikes out the side in the top of the 5th. All swinging. That's six on the day for French.
Bottom 5th: 0-0
Horns get two straight singles from the Marlow brothers, but Hall lines out to short to end the threat. Johnson and Gottsacker started the inning with strikeouts. We're cruising along here at The Disch still scoreless.
Top 6th: 0-0
Three ground outs induced by French in the 6th for a 1-2-3 inning. Still scoreless in this series opener as both starters are pitching very well so far.
Bottom 6th: 0-0
7-pitch inning for West Virginia's Musgrave in the bottom of the sixth thanks in part to a great diving catch by the second baseman on a line drive by Payton.
French gets K No. 7 on the day in the top of the 7th. That's a career-high for the Texas pitcher.
WVU gets a base runner, but still goes down in order after he gets caught stealing second.
Scoreless still as we head to the bottom of the 7th.
Bottom 7th: 0-0
Knebel coming in for French with runners on 1st and 2nd and one out.
West Virginia is on the board with a sac fly in the 8th. Knebel threw a wild pitch allowing both inherited runners to advance, setting up the scoring opportunity.
Bottom 8th: 1-0 WVU

Hinojosa rips a line drive right at the WVU shortstop who makes the grab and steps on second for the easy, inning-ending double play.
Top 9th: 1-0 WVU
Another loss for augie. This is quite embarrassing. Last place in the big 12. Waiting on you DD!
