Thornhill gives up two early hits to the Sooners but a beautiful 6-4-3 double play gets Texas out of a 2-on, 1-out situation.
Bottom 1st: 0-0
Oklahoma's starter is a big dude. 6-foot-8, 261. Gives a four-pitch walk to Johnson to start the game.
Three swinging strikeouts after a leadoff walk end Texas' 1st. Horns go 0-for-2 with RISP after Johnson stole second.
Top 2nd: 0-0
Two errors by Texas in the 2nd puts Oklahoma on the board. Inning started with a line drive off the glove of Hinojosa and the potential third out was botched on a throwing error by Thornhill to first, allowing Carpenter to score from third.
Another line drive hit right at Hinojosa this time goes for an out, but not before the Sooners get a run across.
Bottom 2nd: 1-0 Oklahoma
Hinojosa, Gottsacker and Silver go down in order in the second. Choplick retires six straight after walking Johnson to start the game.
Top 3rd: 1-0 Oklahoma
Thornhill allows one hit in the 3rd but picks up his first K of the day in the 3rd. The hit was a tough play for Weiss to make at third. Throw pulled Silver off the bag. No harm done, though.
Bottom 3rd: 1-0 Oklahoma
Felts gets Texas' first hit of the day on Choplick's first pitch of the 3rd, a single to center.
As I type that Marlow reaches safely on a bunt. It's going to go down as an E2.
Two on, no out for Texas in the 3rd.
Good thing Adam grew to be 6'8" and 260, because had Choplick not been so big, he never would have had a chance in HS.
Really big hit by Weiss to bring in Gotsacker and Marlow.
Erich Weiss puts Texas ahead with a two-RBI triple to center, scoring Brooks Marlow from 2nd and Ben Johnson from 1st. Big hit with two outs in the 3rd.
Big at bat here for Gotsacker with the bases loaded and two outs.
Back-to-back walks by Mark Payton and C.J Hinojosa are enough for the OU coaches to yank Choplick. Lefty Jake Fisher coming in now for the Sooners.
Ground out to second by Gottsacker ends the third. Texas takes the lead with Erich Weiss' big triple. Still a tight game here with the series on the line today.
Top 4th: 2-1 Texas
Five-pitch inning for Thornhill in the top of the 4th. Two grounders to the pitcher and another to short is all OU offers.
Bottom 4th: 2-1 Texas
Another pitching change for Oklahoma. Ralph Garza now coming in for Fisher.
Fisher went 1 IP, HBP, K
Line out to center by Johnson ends the Texas rally. Horns go 0-for-2 after Felts sacrificed Silver over to second.
Top 5th: 2-1 Texas
Sooners get runners on the corners with one out but Thornhill gets a K (2nd of the day) and a fly to right to get out unharmed. Hall, Weiss, Payton coming up in the bottom of the inning for Texas.
Bottom 5th: 2-1 Texas
Slow day at The Disch today. Hall, Weiss, Payton go down in order in the bottom half of the fifth.
Top 6th: 2-1 Texas
Thornhill strikes out the side in the top of the 6th. Matt Oberste, OU's top hitter, is now 0-for-9 this weekend.
Bottom 6th: 2-1 Texas
Great recovery by the OU first baseman to get the throw off and great catch by the pitcher to get Silver at first. Got to respect quality baseball.
Gottsacker on 2nd (walked) with two outs.
Gottsacker left stranded at 2nd as Felts grounds to third. Horns still holding a one-run lead as we head into the final three innings.
Top 7th: 2-1 Texas
Strikeout to start the 7th is Thornhill's fifth in last six batters faced. Fourth in a row.
Five in a row. Sixth out of seven.
