  • I just hope he ends up out of state. It would pain me to watch him play for aggie or baylor. RSJ is a tremendous talent, no way to deny that. Wish it would have ended differently for the good guys and RSJ, but glad it's over.

How big is this class going to be? At 14 now, say you add Andrew Billings and Cole Luke. Do they offer 4-5 guys either nationally or via senior evaluations or are we looking at a small class?

I still think they go to at least 20.

He is a tremendous talent. Hope he has a quick recovery, and a healthy hoops season. Love watching him play with the type of physicality not many do.

  • Gerry alluded to this happening (albeit a bit cryptically) in a thread last week, "read the tea leaves". I wish he'd give up more specifics, but the result is the same.

As disappointed as I am, I'll trust this was the right decision considering nearly every player who breaks their commitment to UT has a disappointing career elsewhere due to character issues.

I sense that a big "but" could follow this statement. Gerry, do you have a big "but"? (Always wanted to use that line on someone other than my bride biggrin).

  • Anyone have the Mack curse gif? Think it will apply here, the whole thing stinks. Shame because I'd like to think RSJ is a good kid - but with too many sucker fish attached.

  • Meh. Frees up room for a Kendall Sanders, Dalton Santos, Bryce Cottrell or Daje Johnson.

  • Saw the headline and really thought I was going to be reading an ND to the ACC story and Texas is moving on to .......

ah, well, the program shall continue to excel with or without him.

Funny you should mention Kendall Sanders. I hear his playing time is about to ratchet up.

  • There was talk at coaching school among some coaches in that circle that he was among the pay per play players. I thought it was just some jealousy creeping through so I didn't say anything about that here, but after this I'm really starting to believe it. Texas doesn't just back off like that with this type of talent unless they were told 1) to back off by RSJ or 2) that this is a money grab. Can anyone confirm if RSJ told Texas to back off?

  • Summary:
“Texas wasn’t happy with him decommitting,” the source said. “The Longhorns like him a lot but felt like the people surrounding him were more into the “recruiting game” than doing right by the kid.”

  • RSJ wants to play for a school who wins like Oregon. Who can blame him?

. Texas has quickly amassed some playmakers on offense. It was time to move on.

I think this is the reality. Mack and company have had time to evaluate the freshmen receivers and like what they have seen.

Thanks for passing that along. I can't help but feel like this will put things into perspective for him. I believed he was being truthful when he said Texas is his number one and where he wants to be, the last 30 times he was asked.

Perhaps now he'll see how the people advising him are having a negative impact on his future.

  • Could've been a monster as a DE. Maybe TE. But he wasn't a WR or S.

  • Even if RSJ becomes a star, I still think its a good decision. No high school player should ever have the power to dictate what a coach does that affects players that are already on campus. Those are the type of things that sow resentment in the locker room and tear a team apart. The program is a year away from being in the National Title conversation again and we can't have any drama suck the life out it.

I don't know RSJ as a person and can't make any comments toward his character. But his recruitment has been bizzare and some things don't add up. I does sound like outside influeces though are affecting his decision making.

  • I say good for Texas. Send a messege to others that if you choose to play the game, there is a good chance Texas will simply move on. There is a reason why maybe 1 in a 1000 high school athletes are able to play both college basketball & college football...it's just too difficult to put the time in necessary to be successful at both. I want kids that are excited to be apart of the history of UT football, and his decommitment indicates he's not. I wish him well in his endeavors, and I'll be following his career whereever he ends up to see how he will do in two sports. There are other viable options out there for us to pursue and we will get our man. Bottom line? I'm proud to know our staff has the balls to seek other options if a kid is not excited to join the Longhorn family.

  • This is clear as day. It has nothing to do with what position he wants to play or if he wants to play dual sports. Our staff basically took the juco TE to show him we'd let him play WR if that's what he wanted. He was also given the green light to play basketball. It's no surprise this recruitment is dirty all the way. Just look at the schools in his top 5. Look at the fact that his AAU coach is getting involved. Multiple have hinted at this for some time. Last time our staff completely backed off a player like this was Lache Seastrunk and we know exactly how that turned out.

His "top 5" is a joke. It will be LSU or A&M, probably A&M.

I understand everyone wanting to dog the kid, but he's just a puppet.

  • Mack made a statement about recruiting when he was in San Antonio over the summer and he got a standing ovation as I reported on here because of it. He specifically talked about passing on kids that sometimes get to a point where they get too caught up in the "process" (recruiting) than they are about coming to Texas. He went on to say we don't make promises to anyone and that if someone chooses Texas, it better be because they are committed to the "team" and not simply to themselves or the individual aspect of it. He said when we pass on a kid; it's because we've made a decision that the process is no longer about the team concept. I'm paraphrasing some of this, but the point is that the situation with RSJ has obviously got to a point to where Mack needed to make the call to move on and so I would have to think we will be better off as a result.
