Texas DB's compared to draft picks

  • Was wondering if anyone could compare our top DB's compared to the ones picked in the first round and projected second round. Just looked at Dre Kirkpatrick's stats and they did not look special at all

  • Our guys dont have ideal size for the first round. Byndom is viewed as too thin and diggs is too short. I could see diggs grow into a Bob sanders type safety.

  • Wonder where Vaccarro is gonna be projected? I seen he tweeted he was " licking his chops" after Barron was picked so high

  • I think comparing stats would be unhelpful in this case because of the differences our conferences have.

  • Measurables are everything in the NFL, unfortunately. Some damn good players fall in the draft, based solely on their size, yet people act surprised when they light it up in the league just like in college.

#14 overall in the 2010 draft. 76 tackles and 5 int his first season. 98 tackles and 2 int last season. I think Diggs has a chance at being a first rounder as does Byndom.

  • Based on what I saw this spring, Vacarro athletically and on the field is a sure-fire first rounder. That being said, if he has off field issues or injury, all bets are off.

I'd bet large coin Vacarro is a top 15-20 guy, maybe higher, in the 2013 draft so long as he doesn't have any mitigating issues arise between now and the draft.

I'll add this. I think he's better than Barron.

His value has increased with the rise of the pass catching TE.

  • I really like Byndom and I think that he will get a chance to play in the league.

How are Byndom's hips and pure speed though when we are talking prospect analysis?

Byndom may have great hips and plenty of speed, but someone was telling me how important flexible hips are for CBs the other day and I just don't know. I'm not the greatest CB evaluator. Maybe Byndom is the total package. I think that Byndom's size is not an issue though. Player comparison--A smaller Kareem Jackson(1st round pick) with better cover skills?

I think that Byndom could end up being a 1st round pick when he comes out.

Diggs--CB or Safety, the dude can flat out play.

I'm not sure whch CB to compare Diggs with at the NFL level because Diggs looks like a Safety, but Diggs is a baller' at CB.
Antoine Winfield is listed at 5'9" and Diggs plays physical like Winfield, but I think that Diggs is thicker than Antoine. Winfield, although listed at 5'9" was a 1st round pick by the Bills and a 3 time pro bowler thats still playing. If I had to make a comparison for Diggs, then I'd go with Bob Sanders or CB Antoine Winfield. One year sample size with Diggs so far, but he looks explosive, instinctive, bouncey and like a Playmaker(With a Capital P) to me.

I could see 1st round for Diggs to.

Vaccaro-The seems to have a blue-collar/grinder work ethic off the field combined with big-time swagger and amazing ability on the field. Nice combination! I really like Kenny's versatility being able to play NICKEL CB, and play it really well from what I've seen!

I've compared Kenny before to Glover Quin who was a college CB who made the switch to Safety in the NFL for the Texans. Quin is pretty good player who can cover or really hit you. I don't think that comparison is valid anymore. I think that Vaccaro is more athletic and bigger than Quin. I think that Vaccaro has put himself in a spot to get himself drafted high and potentially be a great player in the NFL.

I'd guess 1st round for Vaccaro as well.

The best comparison for Diggs would be Javier Arenas, IMO.

  • Byndom will be okay, imo. He did shut down the top receiver in the draft....well, better than any other opposing corner did.

  • I don't think you can really tell that much from DBs' game stats, especially in the SEC where they don't throw the ball as much. Also, the best DBs tend to have the least impressive stats because balls simply don't get thrown their way much, if at all.

  • The secondary at Texas is loaded with future NFL guys. All four current starters will be NFL guys IMO. All potential starters even.
