  • The sublime: 49-21 rebound edge

The very good: 14 assists to 23 fg

The very bad: 55% ft shooting

    The ridiculous: 26 turnovers

Cory Joseph never looked like a One-and-Done but he left so I wouldn't be surprised to see Ridley leave

I might think that if he were a 7 footer. Last I checked, there's not a run on 6'9 centers in the NBA.

  • Guys, I'm as big of a Rick Barnes homer there is but we are in serious trouble this year as a basketball team. I don't know what the deal with Myke Kabongo is, but without him, this team will struggle to win 15 games. With him and Bonds, maybe 20. I hope like hell I'm wrong.

Coppin St. was a very bad team, and a young one too at that. We committed 25 turnovers against a bad, young team.

I don't know where to even begin, but I hope that Kabongo gets back ASAP. His off court issues really put this young team in a bad spot. Hopefully, Jaylen Bond will help as well.

But will they make that big of a difference on this young team?

Defensively this team is waaaaaayyyyy ahead of they are on offense. So I guess Barnes is hoping that their defense will keep them in some games. However, good teams are going to hit a lot of threes against a 2-3 zone. If Barnes is already playing so much zone, then that tells me what he thinks about our man defense....ugh.

Without Kabongo, this team lacks ballhandling, leadership and energy. What's going to happen when teams shut down Sheldon McClellan? Who's going to score?

Ridley, Ibeh, Papi, Lammert, and Holland are all good to great 4 year players, but right now, they are freshman and aren't good enough to carry a team on offense.

Barnes has me mystified with his use of Julien Lewis. Unless Lewis is in the dog house for not playing hard or being dumb, then he's the next best scorer on the team next to McClellan. IMO, it's a big mistake not to give him the ball.

I wanna try to remain optimistic, and remain hopeful that this group will improve, but when is Kabongo coming back? The freshman will hit the wall eventually and then what? Who's going to take over and lead this team? McClellan and Lewis' should be those guys but their body language tells me otherwise...they just don't look like they wanna be there at times.

I hope like hell I'm wrong, but my basketball instincts tell me that this team is going to get hammered when the competition picks up.

Lewis was the only other Longhorn with 10 fga. No other Horn took more than 5 shots from the field, not counting things that resulted in trips to the free throw line. Lewis was 1/6 from behind the arc. How much more does he need the ball on offense when he's shooting tha poorly and what do you expect him to do with it? He wasn't much for trying to take it to the hoop last year.

I dunno...but Lewis looks like he's sulking a little and isn't into it. I could be totally wrong, but after a late timeout the camera was focused on Lewis a long while and he had that look of discontent. Barnes needs to let this kid play and keep him loose and confident. We don't need a Justin Mason part 2 where the kids confidence gets lost on offense.

You are definitely right about not needing a player to lose his offensive game, but given what we saw last year, Lewis's main strength is on the other end of the floor, and I'd like to know what it is that Barnes might be doing to make Lewis lose his confidence. If it is because he isn't starting, well, then he needs to outplay the other players, I guess. If it is quick yanking and being yelled at after a mistake, I'd like to know about it.

Question about the defense. Lots of fouls by the 5s and 4s. Holmes, Lammert, Ibeh, and Ridley combined for 14 fouls in 77 minutes. Was that on them or more due to perimeter defenders allowing penetration and the bigs being put at a disadvantage?

  • Sorry, but Lewis just doesn't look good out there. The 2 on 1, poor shooting, holding the ball when he gets it bogging down the offense. As weird as it sounds, he might need to play faster. I think Holland has shown more in his 2 games that he may surpass Lewis this season if Lewis doesn't pick it up.

  • How does anyone expect a finished product 2 games into the season when:

    1) Your best player hasn't played.

    2) Your best rebounder hasn't played.

    3) The team doesn't have a single upper classman.

We may need more than 5 days to draw conclusions.
