Texas A&M Fires AD Bill Byrne - Now Confirmed

  • Byrne was a freaking idiot with his money. They pay coaches shit and neglect football facilities. He built up the crappy sports. Take a look at the spending. They are number one in every crappy non-revenue sport and WAY down the list in football. I believe his contracts were incentive laden on Natty C's. So he built up the sports he knew they could win at. Throw money at Pat Henry and build a fancy track stadium. Throw money at Blair. He played them pretty well.

Byrne has done this at every stop. Bleed the football program dry by raising ticket prices and then siphoning the money off to pay above-market prices for coaches in the non-revenue sports. Now, Bubba only cares about football (even Bubba is right once in a while), but what can he do? Nada.

I thought about just including the first line and leaving the follow-up line as an easy fastball for the next poster to clobber, but I decided I didn't have complete faith in the posting community yet. Some day. Some day.

I liked the way you did it. Clearly a bunch of folks still missed it so you were right. Upvote for you. If you have to go into great detail about the reference it isn't worth it.

The great thing is that Byrne was fired after their latest hire. I am not saying Sumlin was a horrible hire but I think they might have done better if they opened up the checkbooks a bit.

  • Of course, he is still taking pot shots at Texas. (In this case, he may be closer to the truth than usual. Of course, we did get that "lovely parting gift" of $300M from ESPN.)

  • wait. could be Tellus. he has a one year contract as a backupTE with the Giants to suck. if he sucks as bad there a he did with Dallas, he's likely in his last year in the league. hes an absolute LEGEND the way he'll run that hole under his nose no matter how bad aTm is. he's pefect.

as far as bitter Bill and his comments about Texas not playing aTm? EFF YOU. he did his best to ruin and dismantle the Big 12. and it was out of spite.it was more important than getting in the SEC. they gain the entire benefit playing bigtime Texas, not the other way around. they get no favors from Texas or anyone else in the conference for that matter. enjoy your journey to hell because the SEC will beat you up. and if you thought every top recruit flocked to Austin and didn't want to play for RC, Franchione, and Sherman, wait until greenhorn Sumlin gets a taste of the SEC. BIG FUN.

i hate to burst everone's bubble, but there was a reason for this timing. A&M needed to replace Byrne, everyone knows that. He is not man enough for the SEC. And they have already done a lot of screening and behind the scenes looking into the best candidate.

And yesterday that candidate resigned from her job. (yes i said "her"----the Ags are coming into the 21st century with a great leap-be proud of how they are looking to the future)

and This candidate has great SEC experience, She was an SEC athlete and has continued that SEC experience by working in the football program of one of the stellar SEC programs.

she has intimiate knowledge of coaching in the SEC. She has studied SEC coaching in fact in more intimate ways than almost any other possible candidate.

So no more snide comments. Lets all be gentlemen and recognize when we have been outdone. The Ags are proviing that they are not stuck in the past but are now ready to think "outside the box" and move in (i started to say "unchartered areas" but in truth i am not sure that is exactly the right phrase) a direction that speaks of boldness, courage, and equality for all.
We at UT are stuck with an old white man as our AD.

The aggies now have Jessica Dorrell for AD
(hey i would never lie about this kind of thing.NO really, i have this on good "inside" information. )
p.s. I understand she works cheap so that has to be a plus too

It is a low risk move. Think of the money they will save on travel expenses. They will say "we booked you on a first class flight"

Dorrell: "no need. I prefer to ride coach"

  • shrugshrugI think we have totally missed a big point that should be in this thread. WHY WOULD THEY FIRE HIM NOW??? They are going to need to be able to fire someone once the football season starts. This would talke away one that could take the fall.

They did a nationwide search and hired the best coach in Houston!

He's a total idiot. I was hoping they'd keep him but even he knows they can't win in the SEC.

He could be a duffus, but he sure could pick coaches.
