I know the DT's rotate but in your opinion who loses minutes if MBII plays significant minutes?

He could take time away from any of them. Those guys all have a distinctly different type of skill set from one another.

  • Is it wrong that I'm just excited to not be reading about what a great pastry chef our DTs are holding themselves out as....

Bobby, I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on the DTs this season, specifically how they'll look early in the year for the OSU/WVU/OU stretch. They could be really critical if Jeffcoat is limited. How do you see the snaps breaking down? Last season, the second half of the year, it was pretty clear how we used the DTs, with Randall/Howell playing the first two series of every game, then Jackson/Dorsey coming in for one, and Whaley subbing on 3rd downs. Curious if you think a similar model is followed this year, and if Whaley will still be limited to 3rd downs? thanks

I love me some Lamarr Houston, but nobody even comes remotely close to Casey Hampton in 1999. Led the team with 101 tackles and threw in 21 TFLs for good measure. Lamarr was crazy awesome in 2009 too, but not that awesome.

    This.

Casey and rodgers together were sick. No one ran on texas back then

  • These freshman muscle men make me think that our D in a couple of years will be big and bad like Alabama was against us in the Rose Bowl.
    Can't wait!

If Jeffcoat is limited, I think the effectiveness of the defense will suffer. I think Jeffcoat is a difference maker because if his ability to play the run and pass.

As far as reps, I think it's too early to say. But I could see them going with small/quick and big/power duos on a series by series basis.

  • Bobby, you know I am a Malcom fan and glad he will not face my Montgomery Bears ever again.
On another thread one talks about fixes for DE. Having watched Malcom, I believe he has the footwork and speed to play DE and play it well. He was an excellent tight end in high school both blocking and catching passes. He an exceptional young man.

Diaz already pushes out the 3 technique to a 5 technique at times, usually in long down-and-distance situations.

If Malcom can bring the heat in those situations, he'll get his chance. I'm hearing very positive reports in him right now.

  • I am liking a rotation of Moore & Brown if Moore can get his conditioning up this level and MB2 continues his progress! With Jackson, Dorsey & Whaley, et al... rotating out, the middle will be very strong for the coming years. Hope Malcom stays 4 years...

    Good stuff Bobby!

Another freshman - Jalen Overstreet - has never been a hard-core weight room guy despite already looking like a Greek god.

Quentin Jammer was the same way coming out of HS. He could just walk through the weight room and get bigger/stronger.

  • Malcom has 1 thing on his mind... 1st round.. He's tired of being poor, so he decided to do something about it.. The best quote I can give you that he ever said to me was," because of what I been through and where I'm from. I'm always the hungriest person in the room."

Just make sure that room isn't a pie shop.

"I've heard some of our fans say, 'We were always an SEC school. We just didn't know it," athletic director Bill Byrne said.

It's great that he can see it and act upon it. So many kids basically rip up the lottery ticket they've been given by their natural ability by not keeping their head straight.

Always thought the candidate for that was Desmond Jackson. Haven't seem Malcom but quicker than that at 300 pounds would be ridiculous.

Underrated post. That's a hell of a quote from a guy that already has all the physical tools to be a special player.

And to think, our Colt Mccoy-led offense was puttin it on them. Lost momentum, then our freshman qb-led O almost brought it back.
