VY was gonna win a NC no matter where he went. Brown had to be convinced by Brewster to even recruit VY. What does that tell us?

I love 2005 and 2009 and our QB play but someone please tell me how we are going to fix out QB situation in the near term....I'm thinking 2014 is our best shot at getting some plus play out of that position unless we can get lucky on a JUCO or transfer, which we don't seem to want to pursue anyway....

I'm glad Mack has made changes, but i'm starting to feel like it's become too little too late.

  • Six turnovers were the story in this game. The most frustrating part of that is we had great field position most of the game to work with and opportunities to come up with points on several drives. Yes, the defense had its problems for sure today (looking lost at times on drives), but they also had to play with the deck stacked up against them with a short field to defend off those turnovers.

We've clearly got some issues in other areas than the QB I agree, but it sure does start and end there if you want to have any kind of long term success. I don't care who you put in the backfield or at WR. We need someone who can make good decisions with the football. We clearly can't keep going back and forth with Ash and McCoy hoping for one of them to "get it". McCoy just doesn't have any zip on his passes at all. Ash has shown that he has issues reading the defense and making poor throws under pressure. You could argue that their young and with time, things will improve. I just don't see that with these two players though and that's the problem for Texas. Unfortunately, it will continue to be unless Connor Brewer can come in and have an impact next season. The problem with that mindset is your putting an awful lot of pressure on his shoulders to be “the guy” and were one injury away from being back in to the same situation even if he is the starter next season. Time will tell I guess, but the season will end the way it began with this position unfortunately; a lot of questions still to be asked with not a whole hell of a lot of answers to be given. That’s not very reassuring for this Texas group going in to next season. I hope the bowl practices and the off season will allow this coaching staff to reassess things going forward.

Like a foward pass to an open receiver?

I'm confused. Are you talking about Ash or
    Case?

    Either will work

  • I've been maligned for saying we need a JUCO QB, as far back as three months ago. We HAVE to have one now. Can you risk the development of this team on HOPING either Ash or McCoy make huge leaps next year?

At least bring a great JUCO qb in to compete. How can that possibly hurt? Anyone saying no is wearing orange blinders.

I agree with you as long as were not bringing one in just to do it. I think its something that definitely should be considered though. There's too much uncertainty at that position right now for this team going in to next season. Nothing has been solved as far as consistency goes and clearly we have a long way to go in the development of both. Without knowing what you will truly have with Brewer, I think Mack and Harsin should at least take a look at what is out there, assuming they haven’t already?

NOt sure how many "great" JUCO QB's there are, but your premise is solid. If Brewer does not RS next year, we are right back where we started at the beginning of this year. We need additional competition to push these two.

Ash has the tools to be a serviceable Div 1 QB. I am convinced that McCoy does not.

very well put. i am anxious to see how so many different units on this team develop. most importantly will be the qb position. secondly will be the OL as the blueprint for the future of this team has been seen. power running first, then a controlled passing attack.

at this point, right or wrong, Texas is going to have to see if brewer can be the guy. that's a lot for any freshman but that is Texas' reality. i hope MB has what it takes to be the leader this entire team needs. some of the stuff from barking carnival is concerning. ash needs to find a sense of peace within the game. he seemingly has the physical tools to become an effective qb. case has a better sense within the game of what needs to be done but he presses some and is limited physically.

the wr core needs work as well. sounds like some incoming guys are going to get their opportunity to prove themselves and some veterans might be advised their time will be limited unless they completely turn around their play. i think the bowl practices will be very telling to this staff on who is willing to work and improve and who will be transfer candidates.

wiley's work this offseason will be crucial. can not wait to see what he can do in his second offseason. searles work might be among the most important in the coming months. the OL is much improved but their reality is they need to make as much improvement next season as they did this year.

while we all hope edmond, thompson, benson and the other LBs will fill in and acquit themselves well, that will be a learning process. acho and robinson played very well in many games and were leaders on and off the field. we are going to need the DL to be the voice, leaders and examples for this D.

i like this secondary. hopefully kenny comes back. i think we improve at safety if for no other reason we increase athletic ability, recover speed and pressure we can put on opposing qb with better coverage.

all that being said, the success will depend on qb play. if only minor improvement is made or if Brewer is the option and he has to learn on the job, Texas may be challenged to win 8 or 9 games. the good news is the start to next year will be as soft as it can get with Wyoming, NM and Mississippi.

I would imagine, in the JUCO ranks, that there HAS to be one or two pretty darn good quarterbacks that "slipped" through the ranks from D1 to JUCO.

We HAVE to bring them in to push this team. It will get to the point that playmakers don't want to come here if there is a 9th grade QB throwing to them.

Again, what can it possibly hurt??? It is insane that we are not doing this! QB is the only thing holding us back right now. I understand that we have had quite a few injuries, but really, doesn't that put the spot light on how poor our QB really is?

  • As impressive as RGIII is, I think it's more impressive that Davis, McWhorter, Kennedy, and Rucker were able to steal so much money from the university before they were resigned/fired/reassigned.

Makes you wonder how inept the front office was. Sickening.

  • You may have been looking at your next years quarter back tonight. I've heard Mack say several times that Case is starting to remind me of his brother. Mack gets blinders on and away he goes. I hope it doesn't happen but who knows. He hammered Ash about having turn overs at quarterback all the time on national tv and I think froze Ash's butt hole close. In one interview today before the half, Mack didn't even mention anything about turn overs. Later I read where he said we can't win with that many turn overs but is was a generic response directed at no one.
