  • I posted this link to a DMN blog entry about Swoopes in another thread, but it's appropriate to place it here too.

  • Sounds like somebody needed to tell Nick Saban and Urban Meyer that Swoopes is going to suck in college.

  • I've been silent on my assessment of Swoopes and his struggles this season. I think us Longhorn fans have been too quick to write him off as a bust before he even steps foot on campus. He deserves a shot. Will he succeed? Who knows? Regardless, I personally am glad he will be putting on a TX Longhorn uniform next season!

  • Funny stuff IMO. It mentions things that happened two years ago as proof of his value. Neither article wrote anything about his play this season or last. And there was just one excuse - he has 24 players on his high school team.

I think he's a very good athlete, not necessarily a great one. I think his coach said it best that he'd "still be one of the best athletes if you dropped him off at DeSoto, Highland Park, etc." In other words, not "the" best but "one of" the best.

I think he has a reasonably strong arm.

I don't think he's an elite quarterback or even an elite QB prospect. Hope I'm wrong for the kid's sake.

I have never seen him play. But Meyer, Saban, Patterson, Briles and Miles also offered. What am I missing here?

They offered but Meyer, Saban, Briles and Miles stopped pursuit. Only Patterson and Brown truly stayed in pursuit after junior film. That's the reality.

Damn, that's indicting. Ive been pulling for the kid but I'd be an idiot not to side with Burton, Meyer, Saban, Briles, and Miles over Mack Brown. I am officially off the Swoopes bandwagon.

  • 5 star QB, OH WAIT.. 5 star athlete, right... If he was committed to A&M or OU. How many months ago would he had been moved to a low 4 star 90.. Serious question? He is a great athlete, but well you know.

He's rated an ATH by 247Sports and has been since the late summer, well after he committed to the Horns.

I think too many Aggies forget that I pegged VY and Reggie McNeal accurately.

He's not rated as 5 star

Bobby: I agree with you most of the time but you're wrong on who stayed in pursuit after Jr. tape and who didn't ~ very surprised you would make the comment above when you're facts are simple wrong!!!

I apologize if I am wrong but I don't think I am. Those teams backed off. They may not have told Tyrone but they didn't go as hard as they had early in the process.

All of this said, I think he's a good prospect. I just don't think he deserves to be called "the answer" to the Longhorns' woes in the Morning News, SI or anywhere. I think that's not fair to the kid or Texas.

Correct me if I am wrong, but doesn’t TCU have a history recruiting QB’s and turning them into good defensive players?

  • Have mods ever criticized a high school kid as much as Swoopes has been by this site? Good lord, he sure as hell can't be any worse than the gaggle we've trotted out there the past few seasons. Great kid, coming early, knows he has to work hard and get adjusted to the college game. And all some do on here is just write him off before he even gets out of high school.

There was a player of the year we signed at QB a few years back, won state titles, all kinds of accolades.... that turned out great didn't it? How was he "pegged"?

And if you want to talk about his high school team's record, go back and look at what a QB you might have heard of named Troy Aikman did his senior year in high school in Henrietta, OK. You can't really judge a player by a team's performance in football.
