What Paterno and others in charge at PSU did/failed to do is morally reprehensible. But I'm not so sure that stripping his victories is a punishment that fits.

They will, but he should not have the record of wins. The years Sandusky was there is tainted.

To be honest, all this stripping records and such has never really effected anything. Heck, I still consider USC the 2004 national champions and Reggie the Heisman winner in 2005, although Vince deserved it more, imo. Rewriting history is a very difficult thing to do, especially years after the fact. I don't think many people care that much.

i doubt any team that lost to USC that year now thinks that they won that game. I doubt that Vince thinks he is the Heisman winner. Stripping games in a situation like this to me is silly. Wrong punishment for the wrong crime. It often seems a shame that death ends a lot of punishments. Think of Ken Lay dying in Colorado and his conviction being set aside, precluding various types of damages being found against him in civil suits, and saving his family a lot of money.

I would remove the damn statute and give it to the family to do with it what they want. PSU does not need that there.

but i think and i bet the NCAA does too, that any serious actions against PSU by the NCAA will end up in long lasting litigation that will make a lot of lawyers happy.

Stripping the wins is counter-productive. Erasing him from the collective history is a whitewash of his moral or criminal crimes.

Talk about him some more. Keep that awful statue. I want his records and victories to stand. I want us, as human beings, to look at his legacy and realize that we could be so far off base between public perception and reality.
Personally step back and realize the dangers of promoting someone to living sainthood.

When an ineligible player participates in a game. The game is forfeited. All of the other players are stripped of even championships because of one player. By the fact of PSU covering this up his involvement in every game should cause a forfeit.

I'm beginning to think football coaches are worth about as much as politicians.
