I'm asking this in dead seriousness and not to be an ass, but are things so different in women's basketball that a 47 year old coach with only 5 years head coaching experience (none of which was in a big conference) and a 0-1 record in the NCAA tournament is "a real up and comer?"
By that age, Barnes had been at Texas for 3 years, had been a head coach for 14 seasons, and had 9 trips to the NCAA tournament.

Frankly all of the vague lesbian references have no business being in the shadows and hush hush. The reality is that when only a certain part of the population is even considered as candidates for a role, the best and the brightest are inherently excluded at least in some part. In this instance, the apparent requirement that the candidate be a lesbian for eligibility with a Longhorn women's HC role, for new hires, means other viable candidates are being excluded and discriminated against. It's not unlike keeping black athletes out of mainstream sports for decades across pro and collegiate sports, only I guess this issue can't be discussed. It's absurd. The notion that Conradt, a fossil, has any influence on this hire, is a laughing shame.
Women's AD at Texas is like wealthy family grandkids. Too much money, too little supervision, too little accountability. Plonsky can do what she wants and she is doing it. One interview for the biggest women's HC role at Texas? No problem so long as things unspoken remain as such and the AD is flush with cash. Want to kill the culture in left field at baseball games? Great, just make money. Corruption, style, personal agendas and the almighty dollar have taken ownership in the female part of the AD at Texas and at the expense of production, accountability, and merit. We have what we pay for.
If Plonsky is the next AD at Texas, we'll go into the toilet so fast it will make our heads spin. So long as she can point to ever increasing revenues because of the ever expanding Texas population and the power of the brand as the state school, we'll probably be living with production rot and brand erosion until there is nothing left but a ground floor rebuilding project. It should scare every single one of your shitless.
