Aston to replace Goestenkors as new UT women's basketball coach

DENVER had texted her with the news....

  • Wow. I don't even remember another coach that was even interviewed.

  • Yeah Plonsky, don't bother taking your time actually researching before hiring someone. It's not like you're highly paid to get this right or anything.

As I said before, eh. I hope she is a great hire that far exceeds all of our expectations, but there is not an proven coaching/winning/recruiting re cord there to justify it. Win about 30 game s next year and prove us wrong. Good luck to all involved.

Not defending Plonsky but Aston is pretty highly regarded as a real up and comer.

  • I am completely underwhelmed. Maybe it will work out, but I don't like it because the whole process (i.e. no other interviewees or candidates) stinks. May I be proven wrong, but it smacks of cronyism at it's worse.

  • I just wonder if the girls job is all that desirable anymore. It has been quite sometime since they have put together a really good year from start to finish.I would have thought they would have taken there time and interviewed a few more candidates before filling the position.I do not keep up with woman's basketball all that much but its still a branch of the UT family so here is to Aston coming back home and opening a can.

  • Don't you just love that the announcement was made by the Baylor coach?

I'm asking this in dead seriousness and not to be an ass, but are things so different in women's basketball that a 47 year old coach with only 5 years head coaching experience (none of which was in a big conference) and a 0-1 record in the NCAA tournament is "a real up and comer?"

By that age, Barnes had been at Texas for 3 years, had been a head coach for 14 seasons, and had 9 trips to the NCAA tournament.

  • I just cannot believe only one person was interviewed.

I think this is a hire strongly encouraged by Jody Condradt. Reading threads and posts from fans who follow Texas Women's Basketball Coach G was not well received by the old fan base and she did little to cultivate a relationship. This hire will bring the "old" fans back (so they think) Texas is averaging 4,000 less than Baylor and 2,000 less than aggie. That is an embarrassment. I think everybody knows she will work hard and be here 100% of the time. Coach G spent too much time doing other things like the US Women's team etc. One thing is for sure we have no place to go but up. It can't get much lower....................not saying this is the correct hire at all. We needed to go in a different direction and I have real doubts this is a good hire.

I mean, people trip on the idea of Major taking over. I know revenue amounts are totally opposite but still. Really?

The interview was a three way with Conradt guaranteeing that we will get back to licking everyone we play.

  • Frankly all of the vague lesbian references have no business being in the shadows and hush hush. The reality is that when only a certain part of the population is even considered as candidates for a role, the best and the brightest are inherently excluded at least in some part. In this instance, the apparent requirement that the candidate be a lesbian for eligibility with a Longhorn women's HC role, for new hires, means other viable candidates are being excluded and discriminated against. It's not unlike keeping black athletes out of mainstream sports for decades across pro and collegiate sports, only I guess this issue can't be discussed. It's absurd. The notion that Conradt, a fossil, has any influence on this hire, is a laughing shame.

Women's AD at Texas is like wealthy family grandkids. Too much money, too little supervision, too little accountability. Plonsky can do what she wants and she is doing it. One interview for the biggest women's HC role at Texas? No problem so long as things unspoken remain as such and the AD is flush with cash. Want to kill the culture in left field at baseball games? Great, just make money. Corruption, style, personal agendas and the almighty dollar have taken ownership in the female part of the AD at Texas and at the expense of production, accountability, and merit. We have what we pay for.

If Plonsky is the next AD at Texas, we'll go into the toilet so fast it will make our heads spin. So long as she can point to ever increasing revenues because of the ever expanding Texas population and the power of the brand as the state school, we'll probably be living with production rot and brand erosion until there is nothing left but a ground floor rebuilding project. It should scare every single one of you shitless.

The comment about Plonsky and being the next AD is a good one, based on her track record, but the comment about Coach Condradt being a fossil is mean, out of bounds and just stupid. Jody Conradt had a bad last 4 years as coach and was not held accountable by the AD and Powers. However Coach Conradt did many good things while at UT and always represented The University with class............its a shame some posters don't do the same.

  • It took one day in the showers for Sheryl Swoops to transfer to Tech. Pretty much been downhill for the women's program since then.

Would that be the same Sheryl Swoopes that left her husband for another woman? Thought so.
