From the Texas SID office...
Statement from Jerry Gray on going to the Tennessee Titans:
"This was the hardest decision I've ever had to make, and I want to thank Coach Brown, DeLoss Dodds and everyone at Texas for all of their support during the process. There's no way I could have ever imagined that two jobs that mean so much to me would come up at the same time. Working for Coach Brown and Texas, and Mike (Munchak) and the Titans are opportunities of a lifetime. At the end of the day, a defensive coordinator's job with Mike and in the NFL was just to much to pass up.
"That said, there has been some misinformation out there that I do want to clarify. Money had nothing to do with this. I wouldn't have come to Texas if that was an issue, and I wasn't at all concerned about what anyone else was making. I wanted to be at Texas and there's no reason I left other than a great job opportunity, period. I hope the fans and everyone at Texas can understand and appreciate my decision and realize how difficult it was.
"I have a great relationship with Coach Brown and the Texas football program and am excited about their future. I had some really good conversations with Coach Brown before I left and appreciate all of his support. We will remain friends and supporters of one another. I texted every one of the players when I made the decision and encouraged them to keep working hard and continue the great things they're doing to get ready for the season. This is a program with outstanding kids and coaches and they're going to have a lot of success, and that made the decision even tougher. I'll be in Tennessee, but I'll still be pulling for the Longhorns as hard as I ever have."

Kirk Bohls report-- 1. Jerry Gray is the new defensive coordinator of the Tennessee Titans for several reasons, not the least of which is much more money and a title. But he also left his position as Longhorns secondary coach because he and boss Mack Brown never thoroughly vetted each other or felt comfortable together.
No one made Gray leave the Seattle Seahawks and accept the Texas job. Gray truly wanted to come back to his alma mater and help it win another national championship, but he didn't know his $425,000 salary would be so low on the current staff — tied for fourth with offensive line coach Stacy Searels — and that he would make $200K less than defensive coordinator Manny Diaz despite being more qualified.
Gray also worried privately that Brown is still trying to bring back his football ops director Cleve Bryant, who has earned about $80,000 from the university since he took paid leave in October during the school's internal investigation of accusations made by a former female employee.
Gray is a terrific coach, and I think if Brown had made him defensive coordinator, Gray would still be in Austin today. But he started to have misgivings about the Texas program and began talking to new Titans head coach Mike Munchak two weeks ago, even before Munchak had the job.
But remember this: Mack is all about family, and Gray was looking after his family. I know it hurts the Longhorn Nation, which feels betrayed, but this is probably the best outcome for all parties. I'm told former Horn Van Malone will be high on Brown's list of possible Gray successors.

So, is he closer to the Titans or Texas? I ask this because I think he burned his bridge at Texas in order to go to a lame duck organization. It's not like he was here for a few seasons (or even 1 season) and left for another opportunity. Coaches do that all the time. He left at a really bad time, and hurt his former school in the process. That is hard to forgive, particularly if it was not about the money. When was the last time a legacy came back to his school to coach and left a month later?

Yes, that is different, because as Aristotle said, Akina sweated and bled 11 years for the program. More importantly, I don't care what happens to Arizona, just as I don't expect anyone from the Titans fan base or organization to shed a tear for us. But if Arizona should want to put Akina on the persona non grata list, I can certainly understand that.
"I've heard some of our fans say, 'We were always an SEC school. We just didn't know it," athletic director Bill Byrne said.

Guys, a couple of things. This isn't directed at any individual, just an overall post to the board:
Bohls did have very good sources for this story. You can question him if you want to, but it would be an ill-informed opinion.
I have no problem if you want to disagree with what Kirk writes and want to take him to task for that on this board. You're more than entitled to your opinions, and we want to hear them. There have been plenty of times when I've disagreed with Kirk. Trust me, we've had our arguments.
However, the personal insults need to stop. Kirk is not only a co-worker of mine (and indirectly affiliated with this site), but he's one of my closest friends. To boot, he's an extremely good person. He wakes up at 3 a.m. every Tuesday morning to go feed the homeless. He mentors troubled students at local elementary schools. He's easily the hardest-working journalist (and worker for that matter) I've ever encountered. The world would be a much better place with more Kirk Bohlses.
Again, this isn't to say you can't critique his work or call his column idiotic. That comes with the job. No more personal insults.
You may now post how much I suck (that's fair game), or make sarcastic jokes about how it's sweet I came to the defense of my valentine, Kirk Bohls.

Stating that texting every player to say the same thing was done in bulk rather than individually to save a tremendous amount of time and effort is not so much as an assumption, but a logical conclusion.
You can go back and read the Jerry Gray threads while this was taking place for some observations that go into great detail about honor, loyalty, class, honesty, and what employers do during the hiring process b/c they also have to protect themselves. These aren't assumptions but exercises in logic and drawing from experience of everyone who has worked for an organization or has gone through a job interview.
